Position: Medical Surgical Float Pool - Travel Registered Nurse- $2730 per week.

Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Experience:

• 18 months of experience with 3 months within the last 12 months.

• 12 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Cerner is required.

• Experience with Epic is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role will require floating to multiple units

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >60 miles from facility to be submitted.

• 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program:
Simpli Fi Program
- Baptist Health UAB and no current placement allowed at Program:
Simpli Fi Program
- Baptist Health UAB.

Required Skills/

Experience:

First-time travelers accepted with a minimum of 18 months of Med Surg and/or ICU experience and Epic or Cerner experience. If experience is strictly ICU, Cerner is required. At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience.

Preferred Skills/

Experience:

Chemo experience highly preferred but not required.

Special Requests:
You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit and shift at the same facility). If you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift at the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit and facility. Must be away from Baptist for 6 months before returning as a traveler, measured from last shift worked to assignment start date.

Requested holidays off are not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival. Blackout RTO dates during this assignment:
Halloween 10/30-11/2, Thanksgiving 11/26-30, and Christmas/New Year’s 12/21-1/1. Up to 7 days off may be approved excluding blackout dates; blackout dates require NM/Eanh approval.

Unit Details:
Float pool supports Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Med-Surg/Oncology, Orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology units. Trauma Surgical: general surgery and vascular surgery patients; expected skills include wound care, chest tubes, NGTs, IV skills, medication administration/documentation, and escalations. Neuroscience: CVA, TBI, seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative disease, post-trauma, and angiogram patients; expected skills include IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, colostomy/ostomy care, wound care, chest tubes, surgical site care, C-collars, abdominal binders, and restraints.

Med-Surg/Oncology: all patient types except stroke and MI, including palliative care, ETOH withdrawal, and oncology patients; RN/LPN ratios 1:4-5. Telemetry is monitored by tele techs on the ground floor and hallway monitors; RNs must interpret and confirm strip readings q4 hours. Expected skills include trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, foleys, IV starts, and chemo administration if certified.

Orthopedics: orthopedic and spine patients including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, and laminectomies; expected skills include PCA pumps, negative pressure dressings, dressing changes, foleys, and hemovac/JP drains. MS/Ortho/Urology: urology, ENT, ortho, and Med Surg patients; expected skills include trach care, wound care, wound vacs, IV starts, CVL dressing changes, and the nurse-driven foley protocol. Equipment/support includes Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell, Spacelabs monitors, CNA support when available (about 1:10-12), a charge nurse who rarely takes an assignment, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalists.

Shift & Scheduling:
