About the Role

As a Department Manager, you’ll be the leader supporting and encouraging your whole team. By bringing everyone together, you’ll create an inclusive culture that promotes collaboration and an entrepreneurial spirit, helping you, your team, and H&M succeed. You will ensure an excellent operational and visual experience for your store customers and colleagues, be aware of the store’s strengths, opportunities, and competitors, analyze and follow up on sales, and create plans to optimize results and profits.

Day in the Life Customer Sales & Profit
  • You are responsible for the total OMNI customer experience in your store, ensuring visual and commercial curation according to global guidelines.
  • Represent yourself and the H&M brand positively during customer interactions.
  • Take responsibility for your department's strengths, identify commercial opportunities, and act on them.
  • Establish and analyze sales and budget goals, creating plans to optimize results.
  • Ensure customer service is provided in all areas of the store and that your team is actively promoting and selling products to customers.
  • Follow up that your team is actively promoting the Customer Loyalty App (Hello Member) and in-store sustainability initiatives.
  • Manage your department in a cost‑efficient way.
  • Ensure correct routines in fitting room and checkout, including transaction, returns, and exchanges.
  • Ensure all admin routines for both people and operations are handled correctly.
Fashion & Trend Awareness
  • Keep up to date with the fashion scene, trends, tendencies, styles, brands, products, competitors and relevant influencers.
  • Ensure your team provides product and fashion knowledge as well as other relevant information during customer interactions.
Team & Development
  • Responsible for recruitment, onboarding, performance management, upskilling, and developing your team in‑store.
  • Complete performance evaluations and succession planning to support business and team needs.
  • Retain and share your knowledge and skills with your team.
  • Collaborate with the in‑store Visual Merchandiser team on planning and teamwork.
  • Give and receive feedback with colleagues to learn, develop, and support each other.
  • Responsible for the team’s planning and scheduling.
  • Communicate regularly with store colleagues to inform, motivate, and inspire – daily, weekly meetings, etc.
  • Ensure all procedures, routines, and legal requirements in all areas of the store are followed.
  • Participate in relevant onboarding, introduction processes, trainings, and courses for your role and future development.
Retail Operations / Visual & Commercial Execution
  • Secure a clean and tidy sales floor and back‑of‑house including stockroom areas.
  • Ensure high fashion quality, visual and commercial product presentation, with good garment care.
  • Secure good stock levels and provide input on allocation to the Area team.
  • Maintain the full garment cycle – from delivery to garment presentation – and fitting room routines according to internal standards and technology.
  • Follow best practice for OMNI services and in‑store tech services/tools (Instore Care App, Click & Collect, Smart Store, etc.).
  • Secure strong price signage, ensuring a consistent price perception throughout the store.
  • Update and upkeep BOH areas for all colleagues (key information, health & safety, tidiness, etc.).
  • Responsible for opening and closing the store daily.
