Food For Less Piggly Wiggly is seeking an Assistant Grocery Manager, a full‑time position that values excellent, courteous, and prompt customer service.
Job OverviewThis locally owned full‑service grocery store is committed to providing accessible, reliable, and safe products and services to customers and the broader community with integrity and respect.
Responsibilities General Responsibilities- Display courtesy, attentiveness, and professionalism with customers, vendors, and peers, representing the company in a manner that maintains its reputation.
- Adhere to all safety rules and procedures and ensure the store complies with safety regulations at all times.
- Maintain punctuality and full attendance on each scheduled shift.
- Arrive at the workstation on time, appropriately groomed, and ready to work; attend required training sessions and meetings.
- Develop and implement strategies to drive sales and increase profitability.
- Manage the store’s budget, monitor expenses, and minimize waste.
- Ensure the store is properly stocked, inventory levels prevent shortages or overstocking, and layout is customer‑friendly.
- Hire, train, and, when necessary, dismiss staff, ensuring all employees uphold company policies and provide excellent service.
- Develop and enforce operational policies and procedures to maintain a safe and clean environment for staff and customers.
- Monitor and analyze sales and customer data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with suppliers and negotiate contracts to secure competitive pricing and quality products.
- Resolve customer complaints and maintain a high level of satisfaction.
- Address internal conflicts, document incidents, and ensure appropriate personnel are notified.
- Stay informed about market trends, new products, and competitors to maintain a competitive edge.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations of staff, provide feedback, and coach for professional growth.
- Monitor compliance with safety and health regulations across all departments.
- Strong leadership and management skills to inspire and motivate a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with staff, customers, and suppliers.

- Knowledge of supermarket operations, including merchandising, inventory control, and customer service.
- Proficiency with computer systems and software for inventory management, sales reporting, and administrative tasks.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and necessary certifications for handling raw and cooked foods.
- Understanding of Point of Sale (POS) systems and various payment tenders and checkout procedures.
- Familiarity with restricted sale item guidelines (Alcohol, Tobacco, DVDs).
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, or a related field (preferred).
- Proven experience as a Supermarket Manager, General Manager/Store Director, or a comparable role.
- Knowledge of retail industry trends and best practices.
- Familiarity with safety and sanitation regulations and standards.
- Strong understanding of financial management principles.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Minimum of 2 years of management experience.
- Physical ability to move or handle merchandise weighing 0–50 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds; lift up to 50 pounds; stand or bend over a worktable for the duration of the shift; work varied hours/days as business dictates.
