Shift Lead

Location:

Montgomery, Alabama. Pet Supermarket is a large retail operation focused on providing pet care items and strong customer service. This opportunity is for individuals who are outgoing, upbeat, and customer-service focused, with an interest in working in a high-energy environment and helping Pet Parents with their pet needs. As a Shift Lead, you will support the associate and management team, act as a lead member of the Sales Associate team, and serve as a Manager on Duty when necessary.

This role involves providing friendly customer service, assisting in sales, and ensuring the store runs smoothly.

• Sales Leadership: assist customers and lead the team in driving sales, service, and customer experience initiatives to achieve sales, KPIs, and store performance goals.
• Task Management: prioritize, assign, and delegate daily goals, tasks, and assignments to the associate team and ensure proper completion when acting as manager on duty.
• Professionalism: maintain a high level of professionalism and positive attitude in the workplace, communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
• Customer Excellence: partner with the Store Manager to plan and execute community events and develop relationships with rescue agencies.
• Store Safety and Livestock Care: protect employees and customers by maintaining a safe, clean store environment; maintain cleanliness and well-being of all livestock including animal care and feeding; manage the fish system as needed.
• Operations & Team Building: maintain store standards and safety requirements, assist with restocking merchandise, and move products from stockroom to sales floor; assist with inventory accuracy and shrink goals; support training and merchandising guidelines.
• Opening/Closing: proficient in store opening and closing procedures; communicate concerns with performance gaps to the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager for timely resolution.
• Other Duties: complete tasks and other duties as assigned by store management; support community events and partnerships with rescue agencies.

• Minimum 1 year of retail or customer service experience
• Enjoy working with and around animals
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
• Valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle preferred

• Heavy lifting up to 55 lbs may be required several times per shift
• Most tasks are performed on the selling floor, standing or moving; some activities require inventory ordering
• Active listening and observation for customer and merchandising needs
• Work environment is relatively temperature-stable; may occasionally require working alone
• Potential for accidental injuries from pets (slips/trips/falls, strains/sprains from lifting)
