Overview
Job Summary:
The Crew Lead - Fiber will act as the on-site coordinator and crew supervisor for voice and data installation projects. The Crew Lead - Fiber's task will be to ensure job completion according to company and customer quality and safety requirements while maintaining the efficiency of the staff assigned to the project.
- Cabling & Termination:
Lead major project crews; assume responsibility for effective performance and provide necessary training; ensure adherence to Company and customer safety and quality guidelines; hold weekly safety meetings; initiate performance related communications and escalate to Project Manager if necessary. - Project coordination:
Coordinate with Project Manager to ensure productivity, job completion and compliance with project budget. - Installation work:
Install work area outlets for floor, modular furniture and walls; terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks; mount face plates and surface mount boxes; adhere to IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards. - Closets:
Build closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware; install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required. - Terminations and testing:
Complete all IDC connections (e.g., terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels); perform testing including continuity tests on horizontal and riser cable; use volt-ohmmeter; troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable. - Fiber connectors:
Install LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA and MPO/MTP connectors for both multimode and single-mode fiber; terminate simplex and duplex jumper cords; terminate and breakout outside plant (loose tube) fiber (e.g., Corning/Commscope, 3
DNX) and indoor tight buffered multimode and single-mode fiber. - Cable assemblies:
Install fan-out kits including buffer tube; calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards for multimode & single-mode fiber. - Documentation:
Fully complete all IES paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, Job Blog, tool transfers, and others as required); perform any other duties as assigned. - Testing & Troubleshooting:
Will test using an OTDR and Fluke DTX 180; troubleshoot using an OTDR to identify and correct problems end to end and network wide splicing; perform mechanical and fusion splicing for various fiber types; perform building entrance, maintenance space, and direct buried splices.
- Testing & Troubleshooting:
Experience with OTDR and PMLS; ability to test, troubleshoot and splicing for MMF and SMF systems. - Splicing:
Mechanical splicing and fusion splicing for all fiber types. - Physical requirements:
Must be able to work at heights, on a ladder, in confined spaces; lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds; vision and hearing requirements as described; travel within branch/regional territory as needed. - Education & Licensing:
High School diploma or GED required; proficient with listed tools; proficient terminating all connector types and methods for SMF/MMF (Unicam, anaerobic, heat-cure); able to meet IES driving standards policy. - Experience:
Prefer 5+ years of fiber experience and leading small groups; prefer industry certifications (Corning/FOA); prefer data center installation experience; prefer mechanical and fusion splice experience; prefer OSP/confined space entry experience (splicing). - Tools:
Proficiency with listed trade tools (screwdrivers, drywall saw, level, tape measure, snips, pliers, hammer, wrenches, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves, punch tools, etc.).
- Must possess a High School diploma or GED; able to terminate all connector types and methods for SMF/MMF systems.
- Minimum/Salary:
