Position SummarySr. Mobile Diesel & Trailer Mechanic
The Sr. Mobile Diesel & Trailer Mechanic will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventive maintenance, light and advanced repairs, advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical diagnostics, and related duties. The role is a lead on jobsites, acting as a consultant for customers and technicians, and must meet performance metrics while complying with company policies.
Duties- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
- Make minor adjustments and repairs on various trailer equipment and systems (e.g., aluminum and chem‑lite, brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers).
- Make minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment (e.g., electrical, brake, cooling systems; starters/alternators; fan clutches; engine electronics; diesel steering; engines; transmissions; clutches; differentials).
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer equipment and systems, including welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment including electrical, brake, cooling systems, air conditioning, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
- Identify problems and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
- Manage parts inventory and company‑issued service truck, performing periodic reconciliation.
- Maintain and operate service vehicle with safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
- Listen to clients and customers to assess needs and provide assistance or solutions.
- Prioritize concurrent tasks and allocate time effectively.
- Utilize hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift, and jacks.
- Document work on Repair Orders (RO) and upload photos using the TRAIT iOS app.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation promptly.
- Manage own daily schedule with high independence.
- Maintain high productivity and adhere to standard repair times.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
- Communicate with management and support via email or phone for repair estimates and purchase orders.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- Conduct daily pre/post trip inspections of the service truck.
- High School Diploma or GED with at least 3 years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
- Supply needed hand tools.
- OEM training and certifications preferred.
- Complete all company‑required training.
- Age 21 or older (interstate commerce regulations).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain Driver Qualification File.
- Must pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening, DOT physical, and have a current DOT medical card with at least 4 months remaining or be able to provide a DOT physical.
