Salary Information
Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations.
Nature of WorkThe role involves responsible skilled work in the operation of heavy construction equipment used in construction and maintenance activities in the Maintenance and Engineering (Landfill) Departments. Employees perform safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment, primarily on one or two specific pieces, but may operate other types for special projects or seasonal periods. Work responsibilities include operating equipment such as track excavator, backhoe, lowboy tractor trailer, bulldozer, motor grader, tack truck, asphalt spreader, steel wheel roller, vacuum jet rodder, dump truck, trash compactor, scraper (pan), front-end loader;
performing routine preventive maintenance and safety checks on assigned equipment; supervising a crew of skilled, semi-skilled and laborer duties; and contributing to department objectives by accepting additional assignments.
- Three years of experience operating at least three of the following pieces of equipment: excavator, bulldozer, backhoe, motor grader, asphalt spreader, trash compactor, lowboy tractor trailer.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Valid Alabama Commercial Driver's License and insurable driving record.
- Specific CDL Class may be required (Class A, B, or B with tanker endorsement).
- Ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, sit for extended periods and lift 75-100 pounds.
- Willingness to work outdoors, in all weather conditions, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.
