Salary Information
Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies.
Nature of WorkThe fundamental reason this position exists is to perform skilled work in the installation and/or removal of communications, audio visual, electronic equipment, and various other vehicular components related to Law Enforcement for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office vehicle fleet. Components include, but are not limited to, radio communication equipment, Automatic Vehicle Locater (AVL) equipment, in-car video and audio recording devices, computer network interfacing for in-car computer systems, vehicular light bars and emergency lighting devices, brush guards, partitions, and gun-racks, along with the electronic control feature installation for each, and other equipment as designated by the Sheriff.
Incumbents may also install electronic equipment for other County Departments and public safety entities at the direction of the Sheriff.
Primary work responsibilities may include:
- Assembling, installing, servicing, and repairing stationary and mobile equipment
- Testing equipment
- Performing preventative maintenance
- Driving to off-site locations to address malfunctions
- Completing miscellaneous duties
Work is performed with considerable independence in judgement and action. This classification reports to the Support Services Supervisor, who provides general supervision.
Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED and six (6) months of experience in the assembly, installation, diagnosis, and/or service of communications, sound, vehicular and emergency lighting, law enforcement/safety, and/or navigation equipment in vehicles. Applicable education (technical training in electronics, auto mechanics or related field) may be substituted for experience on a month-to-month ratio.
NOTE:
Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must have and maintain a valid Alabama Driver’s License and insurable driving record. Must submit to criminal background check. May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays for emergencies and special events.
