Mechanical Foreman

A growing commercial construction and operational technology company is hiring a hands-on Mechanical Foreman to support commercial building projects within 30 miles of Montgomery, AL. This role is ideal for a mechanically strong field lead who can direct small crews, keep installation work moving, solve practical jobsite issues, and support high-quality commercial mechanical execution.

The best-fit candidate has commercial mechanical construction experience and can work across mechanical rooms, piping, ductwork, supports, hangers, equipment setting, pumps, fans, motors, valves, rigging support, startup support, testing, balancing, commissioning support, punch lists, and commercial building infrastructure.

Location:

Within 30 miles of Montgomery, AL

Start Date:

First week of September

Schedule:

Field construction schedule; overtime may be available based on project needs

Work Setting:
Primarily onsite at commercial construction jobsites in the Montgomery area, with coordination through the Mobile, AL home office

Role Type:
Contract-to-hire with potential to be hired on full time day 1 based on skill set and candidate needs

Depends on candidate skill set, leadership ability, and commercial mechanical field experience

Travel:
Primarily local Montgomery-area work; may include occasional travel to Mobile, AL and possible overnight stays

Responsibilities

  • Lead small mechanical crews, apprentices, interns, helpers, and less-experienced field employees.
  • Help mentor and train the Montgomery intern program in safe, professional commercial mechanical field practices.
  • Perform hands-on commercial mechanical installation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and startup support.
  • Work across mechanical rooms, piping, ductwork, supports, hangers, equipment pads, pumps, motors, fans, belts, bearings, valves, and related building infrastructure.
  • Support equipment setting, rigging coordination, layout, alignment, and field installation.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate daily work with Mechanical Superintendents, Project Managers, customers, subcontractors, and other trades.
  • Track material needs and communicate shortages, changes, conflicts, or jobsite issues.
  • Support testing, balancing, commissioning support, punch list completion, and closeout activity.
  • Follow OSHA, company, customer, and jobsite safety requirements.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Model craftsmanship, reliability, professionalism, and strong jobsite conduct.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of commercial or industrial mechanical construction experience preferred.
  • Prior foreman, lead mechanic, senior journeyman, or informal crew-lead experience preferred.
  • Strong commercial mechanical troubleshooting ability.
  • Experience with piping, ductwork, mechanical rooms, supports, hangers, equipment setting, pumps, fans, motors, valves, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and shop drawings.
  • Strong field problem-solving skills and willingness to work across different commercial mechanical scopes.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, including possible trips to Mobile, AL.
  • Ability to work outdoors, climb ladders/scaffolding/rooftops/aerial lifts, lift up to 75 lbs, and work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, attics, crawlspaces, and active jobsites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EPA 608 certification.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • Experience mentoring apprentices, interns, helpers, or junior field employees.
  • Experience supporting startup, testing, balancing, commissioning, or punch list work.
  • Experience with commercial facilities, healthcare, education, municipal, aviation, industrial, or manufacturing building environments.
  • Experience in a smaller or growing company where field leaders wear multiple hats and help build process.
