Akicita Federal is hiring AC Mechanic Operators to support facility maintenance operations for the Department of Veterans Affairs Central Alabama Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHCS) in Montgomery, AL. In this role, you will keep critical HVAC and mechanical systems running smoothly across VA medical campus facilities that serve veterans every day. This is a full-time, on-site position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
- Operate, inspect, and maintain air conditioning and HVAC mechanical systems across VA medical campus buildings
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform repairs to restore systems to proper working order
- Conduct routine preventive maintenance checks on mechanical components, fittings, and associated equipment
- Respond to facility work orders and emergency maintenance requests in a timely manner
- Utilize hand tools and power tools common to the HVAC/mechanical trade
- Rotate between the Montgomery and Tuskegee VA campuses as operational needs require
- Document completed work and communicate status updates to campus supervisors
$72,800 - $76,960 a year
- Demonstrated hands-on experience as an AC Mechanic Operator or HVAC/mechanical systems technician
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools common to the HVAC and mechanical trades
- Ability to work a consistent 40-hour week schedule (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM) with occasional overtime availability
- Reliable transportation to report to the Montgomery, AL campus (and Tuskegee, AL campus as needed)
- Ability to pass a VA facility background check prior to starting work
- Prior experience performing HVAC or mechanical maintenance in a healthcare, government, or large institutional facility environment
- EPA Section 608 refrigerant handling certification or equivalent HVAC trade credential
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and work order management systems
- Previous experience working on VA or other federal government facilities
- Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities across multiple campus locations
