Railcar Welder / Repair Technician
Road & Rail Services is hiring an experienced Railcar Welder / Repair Technician to support our Montgomery operation.
This is a hands-on outdoor position for someone who knows how to weld, takes pride in completing repairs correctly, and understands the importance of workplace safety. You will inspect and prepare railcars for service while completing approved repairs to damaged or worn metal components.
Previous railcar experience is helpful, but it is not required. Candidates with stick welding experience from manufacturing, fabrication, construction, trailer repair, structural steel, heavy equipment, or other industrial environments are encouraged to apply.
As a Railcar Welder / Repair Technician, you will inspect railcars for damage, wear, and conditions that may affect serviceability. You will use stick welding, cutting tools, grinders, and other equipment to repair or replace approved metal components.
Work may include repairs to brackets, panels, doors, supports, safety appliances, decks, frames, and other parts located above or below the railcar body. You may also complete basic fabrication, prepare damaged areas for welding, measure and align materials, clean completed welds, and assist with general railcar inspection and preparation duties when needed.
This position requires working around large equipment, climbing railcars, using fall protection, and performing physical work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
We are looking for someone with previous stick welding experience and the ability to produce dependable welds in an industrial environment. The strongest candidates will also have:
- Experience using cutting torches, grinders, hand tools, and fabrication equipment
- Strong mechanical ability and attention to detail
- The ability to identify cracks, damage, wear, and metal fatigue
- The willingness to perform both welding and general railcar preparation work
- A dependable work history and strong commitment to safety
Previous railcar, railroad, trailer, structural steel, heavy equipment, or industrial maintenance experience is preferred but not required.
