Equipment Operator
Job DescriptionThe fundamental reason this job exists is to operate moderate to heavy equipment in the completion of projects for various City of Montgomery departments. The work responsibilities are: operates maintenance equipment; operates heavy equipment; operates hauling equipment; maintains equipment, tools, and work area; and performs miscellaneous tasks. Equipment Operators typically use two or more types of the following equipment: bulldozers, scrapers, front-end loaders, wheel rollers, dump trucks, hauling equipment, and/or trash compactors.
The majority of Equipment Operators' time is spent utilizing equipment that requires a CDL and many Equipment Operator IIs receive training on various pieces of heavy equipment for future advancement to the Heavy Equipment Operator classification. Equipment Operators are supervised by various classifications, dependent upon the incumbents assigned locations.
Six (6) months of experience in the operation of moderate-sized equipment such as trucks, small dump trucks and/or tractors. Must have a current CDL.
Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Special RequirementsMust have and maintain a valid driver's license and insurable driving record. May be required to travel across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces at the various work sites. Must be willing to work weekends, holidays and evenings as needed by the department.
