Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to develop, implement and oversee therapeutic recreational services and assisting with daily operations for the Therapeutic Recreation Center. The work responsibilities of the position include planning, supervising and coordinating the scheduling of all programs for diverse abilities and needs; supervising staff and volunteers; coordinating the orientation of all new participants; contributing to the department objectives;

assisting the Therapeutic Recreation Center Director in daily operations such as scheduling, budgeting and resource allocation, support program development and community partnerships; supervising, mentoring and supporting staff, volunteers and internship programs. Supervision is received from the Therapeutic Recreation Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation or an allied health professional field of study such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology or science, speech pathology, music or art therapy, special education, or adaptive physical education and one (1) year of experience programming activities for therapeutic recreation.

NOTE:

Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Work on holidays, nights, and weekends is required to ensure availability of programs and events to the community. A commercial driver’s license (CDL) is preferred in order to transport participants and/or equipment to various event sites.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department. Applicants will be screened, qualified and ranked based on education and experience as shown on the application. For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were.

If more than five qualified applications are received, a selection procedure will be administered in order to rank applicants on the employment register. Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
