Background Investigator

• Complete a full-time 6–7 week Investigator training program and obtain certification in Federal Investigative Standards
• Conduct daily in-person background investigations to determine employment suitability for individuals requiring access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information
• Schedule and conduct face-to-face interviews with subjects, neighbors, employers, friends, and family
• Perform record searches at police agencies, courthouses, educational and financial institutions, and medical/mental health facilities
• Type and report obtained information clearly and concisely using a government-issued computer system
• Work independently while collaborating with a team of Investigators and a Field Manager
• Travel locally and outside the primary work area, including possible 14–30 day Temporary Duty Assignments

• 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree may be considered
• Experience conducting federal background investigations preferred
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret eligible clearance
• U.S. citizenship
• Must reside within 50 miles of Montgomery, Alabama
• Daily local and out-of-area travel required
• Home office required
• Temporary Duty Assignments of 14–30 days away from home may be required
• Valid driver's license and full-time use of reliable transportation
• Sufficient motor vehicle insurance
• Accurate and efficient typing capabilities; 40+ WPM recommended
• Ability to work with multiple computer programs concurrently
• Ability to speak for extended periods and hear sufficiently for in-person and telephone communication
• Ability to record, read, and transcribe words and numbers accurately
• Proficient grammar and writing skills
• Ability to meet attendance and punctuality expectations and maintain attention to detail
• High confidentiality, ethics, and integrity
• Professional attire required
• Ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, stand for long periods, and drive in adverse or night conditions
• Ability to interact professionally with varied individuals and personalities
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment under remote supervision
• Excellent organizational, scheduling, and prioritization skills

Demonstrates expertise in conducting federal background investigations, including interviewing and record searches, while maintaining high standards of confidentiality and ethics. Proficient in typing, writing, and using multiple computer programs to report findings clearly and concisely.
