Software Engineer III – IT Sales Domain (IBM Sterling OMS) Summary

We are seeking a seasoned Software Engineer III to join our Sales Domain IT team, specializing in the development and modernization of enterprise applications built on the IBM Sterling Order Management System (OMS) platform. This role is ideal for an experienced Java developer with 10-15 years of industry experience, particularly in large-scale, high-revenue environments. You will play a key role in building scalable, reliable, and maintainable SaaS-based web services that support the entire sales quote and order lifecycle—from intake through invoicing.

Job Duties
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java-based microservices and APIs within the IBM Sterling OMS ecosystem.
  • Lead modernization initiatives and greenfield SaaS projects using cloud-native architectures and Function-as-a-Service (FaaS) approaches, specifically Google Cloud Functions.
  • Implement robust event-driven architectures to ensure high availability, redundancy, and scalability of sales order processing systems.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including business analysts, QA, and Dev Ops to deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Ensure adherence to best practices in software development lifecycle (SDLC), including code reviews, documentation, and automated testing.
  • Mentor junior developers and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes and tools.
  • Participate actively in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and Kanban workflows to deliver iterative improvements.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of enterprise application development experience, with a strong background in Java development for companies with revenues exceeding $1 billion.
  • Proven experience working with IBM Sterling Order Management System (OMS) or similar large-scale order management platforms.
  • Experience in large-scale modernization or greenfield SaaS projects is highly desirable.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Skills
  • Expert proficiency in Java, including Java 21 features such as streams, functional programming, asynchronous programming with Futures, Virtual Threads, and Completable Futures.
  • Strong experience with JDBC, ORM frameworks, and document-based databases like Mongo

    DB.
  • Experience with Quarkus framework preferred;
    Spring Boot experience is acceptable.
  • Deep understanding of Java microservice architecture and event-driven design patterns.
  • Skilled in API development (both publisher and consumer) with strong code and system documentation practices.
  • Familiarity with software development best practices (SDLC, Git version control).
  • Experience deploying applications in cloud environments, preferably Google Cloud Platform.
  • Solid understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and Kanban processes.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with IBM Store Engagement (Next Gen).
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform services such as Google Pub/Sub and Kafka.
  • Knowledge of Azure Dev Ops pipelines and Jira for agile project tracking.
  • Additional experience with cloud-native CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops practices.
