Job Overview

This position is a registered nurse with demonstrated clinical and instructional expertise, responsible for nursing staff development. The role assesses, develops, delivers, coordinates, and evaluates learning activities to meet orientation, regulatory training, and continuing education needs. It collaborates with the nursing leadership team to support quality patient care and strategic initiatives, using strong interpersonal communication skills to build collegial relationships with peers.

The position has system‑wide responsibilities for creating and presenting education at the organizational level, including the Professional Nurse Residency program. It requires serving on an organizational council or committee and on the Nursing Clinical Support Team, and maintaining an 8‑hour staffing position per pay period to support excellence in skills. The role involves creative and effective problem‑solving, initiative in managing change, and independent, efficient performance of day‑to‑day tasks.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse credential
  • Demonstrated expertise in an area of clinical specialization
  • Exceptional interpersonal relations and problem‑solving skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of learning, instructing, and instructional planning
  • 4–5 years of experience in clinical nursing acute‑care practice
  • 2–3 years of experience in professional nursing orienting/precepting newly hired UM RNs, educational offerings, and department in‑service
Job Responsibilities
  • Provides support for the competency‑based orientation and evaluation of nursing staff.
  • Collaborates in the development of unit specific orientation plans.
  • Evaluates outcomes of unit‑based orientation plans and recommends appropriate improvements.
  • Supports the utilization competency assessment program, facilitating feedback, individual action planning, and documentation processes.
  • Provides basic and advanced developmental support to unit preceptors.
  • Facilitates the development of critical thinking skills in new graduate nurses through the planning and coordination of orientation activities and processes.
  • Provides and promotes educational services in area of specialty.
  • Collaborates in the identification and assessment of nursing team educational needs.
  • Prioritizes needs in collaboration with management and plans appropriate learning activities.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates team educational materials and programs, considering factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost.
  • Applies advanced educational principles and skills to improve patient and family outcomes.
  • Facilitates the application of research findings from the literature into practice.
  • Contributes to the development, maintenance, and enforcement of utilization processes.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of department and physician advisor goals.
  • Role models professional standards of nursing practice.
  • Serves as an advocate for nurses and as a mentor to members of the health‑care team.
  • Collaborates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in clinical quality improvement activities to promote excellence.
  • Participates in the evaluation of nursing care and patient outcomes.
  • Collaborates with management in the identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of process and clinical quality activities.
  • Initiates or participates in nursing research and evidence‑based practice to improve staff education and/or patient care.
  • Identifies, recommends, and facilitates implementation of clinical best practices.
  • Maintains accurate, legible, and confidential records.
  • Defines goals and pursues opportunities for professional growth.
  • Identifies knowledge and skill needs through self‑assessment, peer review, and customer feedback, providing constructive feedback to peers.
  • Participates in review of current literature/research and CMS regulatory changes.
  • Participates in a variety of educational activities to maintain and increase competence, including continuing education, specialty certification, professional organization membership/leadership, formal education, and participation in hospital‑based or industry‑based learning.
