Job Overview:

As a Registered Nurse in the Cardiovascular Pre/Post Unit at Bethesda North Hospital
, you will provide specialized nursing care for patients undergoing advanced cardiac, vascular, electrophysiology, and structural heart procedures. As a member of the Heart Hospital team, you will play a vital role in preparing patients for procedures and guiding them safely through recovery. Working in this fast-paced, highly specialized environment, you will perform comprehensive assessments, monitor patient status before and after procedures, manage access sites and recovery progression, provide education to patients and families, and coordinate care with cardiologists, advanced practice providers, cath lab staff, electrophysiology teams, and other interdisciplinary partners.

Job Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree
    - Nursing (Required)
  • New hires required to obtain BSN within 5 years of hire. (Required)
  • Knowledge, judgment, and skills derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to meet complex health care needs at various stages of the life cycle
  • Registered Nurse Required
  • ACLS PALS may be required but is dependent on unit or department Preferred
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Required

Job Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates organizational responsibilities. Identifies areas for self-improvement through self-assessment and peer review. Functions in roles and provides leadership on the unit as needed and requested. Cooperates with instructor to facilitate learning experiences for students. Demonstrates knowledge and is supportive of organizational and unit changes. Supports organizational activities by participating in activities such as committees, staff meetings, councils. Utilizes chain of command appropriately.

    Builds collegial relationships with physicians and other health team members. Demonstrates autonomy in identifying opportunities for process improvement.
  • Evaluates the plan of care for patient based on optimal specific patient outcomes. Documents the patient/family response to care including teaching. Collaborates with the patient/family and with other members of the health care team, including physicians, to revise plan of care as needed. Supervises the care that was delegated to other health care team members.
  • Implements plan of care for patient. Provides a safe and therapeutic environment while maintaining patient’s autonomy, dignity, and rights. Determines plan of care based on ethical principles as outlined in the Tri Health Code of Ethical Business and Professional Behavior. Acts as a patient advocate. Delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity. Seeks available resources to help formulate ethical decisions.

    Prioritizes the workload according to patient’s needs, requests, and the needs of the unit/facility. Recognizes emergency situations, notifies appropriate personnel, and begins emergency measures. Completes patient as
  • Performs initial and ongoing assessment of patient and family. Completes initial assessment tool. Documents ongoing assessment per unit/Tri Health guidelines. Communicates assessment findings to other health care providers as appropriate. Includes health counseling and health teaching needs in assessment.
  • Performs technical skills according to policy and procedure and accepted standards within their area of practice. Safely administers medications/treatments and monitors their effects. Uses all equipment in a safe, appropriate manner.
