Protective Service Officer Armed II – Bethesda North Hospital

Work Schedule- Full‑time (36 hours/week)
- Night Shift (earns shift differential)

Job Requirements- High School Degree or GED
- 1–2 years technical experience in Criminal Justice, Private Security, Police experience or Military preferred
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Current Private Security handgun certification or ability to obtain certification within 45 days of hire
- Valid Driver's License with no more than 4 driving points recorded on a motor vehicle report
- No prior DUI/DWI convictions within the last five years
- No major moving violations convictions
- Officers must be a minimum of 21 years of age
Officers must patrol buildings and grounds to deter and prevent law and policy violations, post‑up at specific locations when assigned, and ensure the safety and security of patients, parents, visitors, and team members. They maintain communication with the Communications Center and Protective Services personnel via two‑way radio and phone, ensuring that only authorized personnel are admitted onto the hospital premises and that unauthorized persons are handled appropriately.
Officers report safety and fire hazards, observe for violations of the Joint Commission, OSHA, NFPA, and Fire Code safety regulations, and may be assigned on‑call responsibilities or reassigned to other locations and schedules—including weekends and holidays—as needed. They respond to and investigate routine and urgent complaints, file documentation by the end of the shift, and conduct follow‑up investigations. Officers provide emergency response to distress calls, panic alarms, and emergency calls for disorderly conduct or combative patients within three minutes of activation, assist clinical staff with patient restraint, monitor combative patients, and may physically restrain patients as instructed.
They support safety emergencies, evaluate situations, and act according to Tri Health policy guidelines, maintain a high authority presence, provide help during emergencies, and liaise with police and fire agencies. Officers direct traffic within Tri Health campuses, control parking for patients, parents, visitors, and team members, enforce parking rules and issue violations, escort individuals, and manage access for Tri Health entities including locking and unlocking.
They record information in security logs and provide information and directions to patients, parents, and visitors, while upholding Tri Health policies and procedures. An officer must carry a firearm at all times and be able to protect staff and patients, following defensive equipment policies.
