Customer Service Specialist Allerton Park and Retreat Center
Allerton Park and Retreat Center in Monticello, IL, is accepting applications for a Customer Service Specialist who will be responsible for ensuring that the Allerton guest experience is executed flawlessly with attention to detail. The role will also ensure that Allerton accommodations meet guest expectations and serve as the primary point of contact for guests and potential guests. Hours are 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.;
the schedule will be flexible based around operational needs with weekends required.
- Greeting and registering guests and checking guests out of the hotel, making reservations, sending confirmation emails, processing payments and refunds, and resolving complaints.
- Maintains records of guest information and interactions.
- Compiles monthly revenue numbers of hotel operations and prepares statements for the Retreat Center Coordinator.
- Supervises part-time and full-time housekeepers, including interviewing candidates, training employees, assigning work, and evaluating staff.
- Serves as primary point of contact for guests and potential guests, answering questions about Allerton history, amenities, area attractions, and directing guests to the appropriate department.
- Responds to guest inquiries and requests and resolves complex issues in a timely, friendly, and efficient manner.
- Ensures that events are ready when clients arrive by assisting with set‑up and placement of food, beverage, and other items.
- Books rentals for events, processes payments, and emails confirmations and necessary information to clients.
- Manages the sale of gift certificates and Allerton merchandise by preparing, shipping, processing payments, and recording sales.
- Collaborates with the Retreat Center Coordinator to set standards and policies for the Allerton guest experience, including hotel and front desk operations.
- Manages hotel inventory, purchasing, and reporting of needed items.
- Maintains a clean, sanitary, and comfortable environment for hotel guests.
- Reports items in need of repair.
- Ensures confidentiality and security of guest rooms.
- Makes beds, removes and replaces linens, washes, dries, and folds laundry; restocks closets.
- Cleans guest rooms and bathrooms, including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and washing windows.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least three (3) years of experience from the following categories:
College coursework in business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field: 30 semester hours equals 1 year, 60 semester hours equals 18 months, 90 semester hours equals 2 years, 120 semester hours equals 3 years.
- Responsible work experience in customer services, public relations, office administration, business and financial operations, healthcare administration, or other closely related experience.
- One (1) year of work experience comparable to that gained as a Customer Service Representative.
Skills and Abilities
- Professional appearance and positive interaction with hotel guests.

- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
This is a 100% full‑time Civil Service 4809 – Customer Service Specialist position, appointed on a 12‑month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. Salary range: $42,000–$46,000. Sponsorship for work authorization is not available.
