Position: Youth Behavior Assistant- White County

Summary

To provide support at an individual or small group level to children with behavioral, cognitive, academic, and social/emotional difficulties. Responsible for providing instructional, behavioral, and other support as needed throughout the summer club day for assigned club member(s). This role works in collaboration with the Logan Center and a co-supervision model is used to ensure proper support and training for the specific duties described below.

This person will participate in job specific training through BGCNIC and in partnership with Logan.

BGCNIC serves 3,000 children ages five to 18 at 35+ sites across northern Indiana through summer and before and after-care programming, with a strong focus on social and emotional learning, college and workforce readiness, and academic enrichment to ensure every child has a chance to meet his or her potential.

Essential Functions
  • This position will play a key role in successfully implementing and modeling day-to-day trauma informed behavioral management strategies at the individual and group level. The Youth Behavior Assistant will play a key role in ensuring that the youth they serve are able to participate in all club experiences in a safe and engaging way.
  • Work with assigned youth on a 1:1 or small group basis
  • Work with Logan Center to understand and implement behavioral plans for assigned youth
  • Assist club staff with learning and high yield activities with specific focus on your assigned youth
  • Supervise assigned youth during emergency drills, field trips, learning labs, recreation time, lunch time
  • Follow recommendations based on IEP or 504 plan reviews
  • Communicate with club director and YDPs regarding student progress and student needs
  • Interact respectfully with staff, partners, and volunteers
  • Other duties as assigned including assisting with general youth development duties when the assigned child is not present
  • Meet with site supervisor and direct supervisor as indicated
Preferred Qualifications

An individual with specific interest or experience in mental health, behavioral and emotional well‑being, and child development. Experience and training in school‑based paraprofessional duties preferred.

Qualifications, Skills, & Abilities

Minimum High School graduate or equivalent; some post‑secondary education is preferred. CPR certification is preferred. Experience working with youth, including recreation, coaching, training, tutoring, or teaching. Knowledge of physical, social recreational games, coaching or tutoring methods. Ability and willingness to consistently engage youth in all activities. Knowledge of basic Microsoft office, web‑ and non‑web based computer applications. Must be physically and mentally able to perform essential functions, possess sufficient physical strength and energies required to effectively engage in activities with children, and support and sustain the physical environment.

  • Ability to move, walk, run, bend, reach, stoop in the delivery of member care;
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, pull up to 20 lbs.;
  • Ability to frequently handle gross and fine manipulations such as grasping, twisting of small objects;
  • Ability to handle hazardous/infectious waste; work where chemicals are used for cleaning; work where mechanical and electrical hazards, and where environmental dust, mist, steam are occasionally present;
  • Ability to operate a vehicle in a safe manner;
  • Ability to accurately read and complete documentation; assist children in written/other activities;
  • Ability to work in a rapid paced environment where noise and stress levels may be high;
  • Ability to interface professionally with a diverse group of persons.
Pay Rate

$16 per hour
