Job Purpose:
Abrades surfaces of metal or hard composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust and dirt and to impart specified finish.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 1 – 3 months related experience and / or training or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
- Ability to read prints.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to read and use a tape measure.
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but simple written or oral instructions.
- Will be regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear.
- The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move more than 100 pounds..
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions; high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and vibration. The noise level of the work environment is usually loud.

- Reliable and predictable attendance required.
- Must be able to use and work in protective equipment including but not limited to; fully enclosed helmet; protective suit; respiratory protection; gloves; boots.
- This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Shovels or pours abrasives such as sand, grit, or shot of specified grade into machine hopper.
- Masks specified areas of object as indicated on job print to protect from abrading action and the accumulation of blast media which may harm the product’s functionality (e.g., silencers).
- Moves product to be sandblasted into and out of sand blast booth.
- Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle or into tumbling barrel.
- Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of blast media over surface of parts and blasts for specified interval to achieve required surface specifications.
- Examines product after blast to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Cleans product of blast media prior to moving it to the paint or powder area of production.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
