Montello High School Instrumental Music Educator

Montello High School seeks a dynamic, motivated, and passionate instrumental music educator to join a collaborative music team, teaching 9th-12th grade musicians. The successful candidate will direct and assist the overall high school instrumental music program. Candidate will also provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensures compliance with all state and district requirements.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Directing high school instrumental performances including concert bands, jazz bands, sectionals, percussion ensembles, and other small ensembles.
• Providing for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, solo/ensemble contests, pep band performances, pep fests, and community events.
• Creating learning environments that are appropriate for all students with varying levels of skills.
• Assessing students' developmental, cognitive, and social needs, and providing developmentally appropriate instruction to meet those needs; establishing differentiated instruction and expectations for students.
• Maintaining and updating accurate and complete records of students' progress and development, as required by laws and district policies; regularly communicating necessary information to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs; preparing required reports on students and activities.
• Working cooperatively with others to maintain an accurate inventory of school-owned instruments and uniforms; including the storage and use of school-owned equipment and materials; making adjustments and repairs to instruments, as required.
• Participating in department, school, district, and parent meetings; establishing and communicating clear objectives for all learning activities.
• Demonstrating preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
• Encouraging parent and community involvement, obtaining information for parents when requested, promptly returning phone calls and answering emails.
• Complying with all federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, MSHSL rules, and Board of Education policies.

Required knowledge includes district policies and procedures, curriculum requirements and learning objectives, 2018 MN State Fine Arts standards, state and federal laws and regulatory issues governing public education, legal, ethical, and professional rules of conduct for public education teachers, principles and techniques of making effective oral presentations, computer applications related to the work, and correct business English.

Required skills include developing and maintaining a public education learning environment, assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, operating a personal computer using standard and specialized software, communicating effectively verbally and in writing, contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives, and activities, commitment to the District mission, performing assigned responsibilities in a manner consistent with the District's established Core Values, and advancing the District's mission and values through careful attention to the key issues of Learning, Environment, and Resources.

Education/experience requirements include a Bachelor's degree in Music Education and an appropriate MN teaching license as issued by PELSB.
