Operations Manager
Job Summary
Direct and manage renewable facility maintenance and on‑site operations activities to optimize availability, reliability, and generation output across various renewable or storage technologies including solar photovoltaic generation. This role oversees safety, front line workers, contractors, compliance, and cost for direct site activities.
Responsibilities- Supervise a team of union front line workers performing preventative and corrective maintenance on plant systems and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NERC, NFPA, federal, state, and other applicable codes and regulations during design, construction, repair, and operation of equipment.
- Maintain a safe work environment across all sites by enforcing company safety standards and contractor safety programs.
- Conduct pre‑job safety briefs for all assigned work and enforce safety rules.
- Verify all work performed complies with environmental permits and procedures.
- Investigate, document, and report safety and environmental incidents in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with other departments to develop effective repair strategies and maintenance schedules for equipment such as OEM equipment, substations, collection systems, roads, vegetation, meteorological towers & stations, and other site infrastructure.
- Assign scheduled and emergency maintenance activities to personnel and determine when additional resources, overtime, or contracted services are required.
- Administer the Employee Productivity Guidelines, Code of Conduct, and collective bargaining agreement, ensuring contractor qualification and compliance.
- Perform employee performance reviews and instruct on work performance standards.
- Develop budget requests for plant equipment, systems maintenance, and capital improvements and submit project proposals with purpose, scope, estimated cost, and benefits.
- Monitor module, inverter, tracking systems, balance‑of‑plant, and SCADA performance; identify abnormal conditions and coordinate corrective actions.
- Provide weekly and monthly operations, performance, and compliance reporting for assigned facilities.
- Review, validate, and approve contractor invoices, service reports, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and budget alignment.
- Control and track department expenses within budget, forecast costs, and report expenses on a predetermined basis.
- Respond to emergency calls and maintain on‑call responsibilities on a rotating basis.
- Train and evaluate employees in proper use of tools, machinery, maintenance procedures, and safe work practices.
- Assist operating departments in monitoring equipment and troubleshooting abnormal operating conditions.
- Determine appropriate maintenance scope and timing of repairs.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 4+ years experience in maintenance or related engineering discipline in power plant, industrial process, or military service.
- 4+ years supervising in a union environment with familiarity of working under a collectively bargained agreement.
- Understanding of safe work practices and commitment to safety.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation maintenance procedures and practices.
- Ability to manage multiple projects or technologies across multiple sites.
- Availability for on‑call duties and non‑business hour response.
- Understanding of maintenance management processes.
- Effective communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Familiarity with renewable assets and bulk energy storage technologies.
- Understanding of equipment mechanical, electrical, and control relationships.
- Familiarity with SCADA‑based monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
- Experience leading and coordinating a union workforce.
- Formal training in power plant or industrial operating departments, project management, and maintenance management practices.
