As a Field Service Technician, you will diagnose, repair, overhaul, and maintain a wide range of heavy construction equipment and heavy-duty trucks in the field. This role supports both Construction Equipment (CE) and on-highway truck customers
, extending dealership service capabilities directly to customer locations.

Equipment serviced includes excavators, loaders, dozers, compactors, and other heavy construction equipment, as well as heavy-duty diesel trucks and related systems
.

This position requires strong technical expertise across diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, emissions systems, and advanced onboard diagnostics. The Field Service Technician operates independently while delivering high-quality repairs, minimizing downtime, and providing exceptional customer service.

  • Receive and respond to repair orders from Dispatch or Service Advisors.
  • Diagnose and repair issues on construction equipment and heavy-duty trucks in the field.
  • Perform work efficiently and accurately in accordance with dealership and OEM standards.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, inspections, and field repairs to minimize customer downtime.
Advanced Diagnostics & Technical Work
  • Utilize diagnostic software, OEM tools, and precision instruments to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Service and repair:
    • Diesel engines and powertrain systems
    • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems (primarily CE equipment)
    • Electrical and electronic control systems
    • Emissions and aftertreatment systems (DEF/DPF)
    • Fuel, cooling, exhaust, and lubrication systems
  • Perform major repairs including engine overhauls, drivetrain service, and system replacements across both equipment and truck platforms.
Equipment & Vehicle Testing
  • Test repaired equipment and trucks to ensure proper performance and reliability.
  • Perform operational checks, road tests, and functional testing as required.
  • Ensure all work meets safety and quality standards prior to returning units to service.
Customer Interaction & Field Support
  • Communicate clearly with Service Advisors and customers regarding diagnostics, repair scope, and progress.
  • Deliver professional, customer-focused service at job sites and roadside locations.
  • Provide recommendations to customers on maintenance and repair needs.
Parts, Documentation & Coordination
  • Coordinate with the Parts Department to ensure timely availability of required components.
  • Accurately complete service reports, repair orders, and required documentation.
  • Maintain compliance with dealership, OEM, and customer reporting standards.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures; maintain a safe work environment in field conditions.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous material handling and disposal.
  • Maintain service truck, tools, and equipment in clean and safe working condition.
  • Stay current with technical bulletins, system updates, and emerging diagnostic technologies.
Required Qualifications
Education
  • Two-year technical degree in Diesel, Heavy Equipment, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant diesel repair experience required
  • Experience in heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, or both strongly preferred
  • 5–7+ years of experience highly preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic ability across multiple equipment platforms
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Diesel engines and aftertreatment systems
    • Hydraulics (construction equipment focus)
    • Electrical and electronic systems
    • Drivetrain and transmission systems
