Role Summary
The Associate Actuary reports to the Actuary of Capital Management & Deal Team and will be responsible for leading and collaborating on multiple transactions. This role supports strategic financial initiatives by developing, validating, and interpreting actuarial models used to evaluate capital deployment, reinsurance transactions, and other corporate financing solutions. This role partners closely with MCOE, Finance, Pricing and senior actuarial leadership to provide analytical insights that optimize the company's capital position and drive informed decision-making.
The successful candidate will contribute to the pricing and structuring of reinsurance deals, assess the capital impact of strategic transactions, and help manage NLG's economic, regulatory capital frameworks. This position requires strong technical modeling ability, sound actuarial judgment, and the ability to communicate complex results to both actuarial and non-actuarial audiences.
* This position currently offers an onsite hybrid work schedule, with the expectation that you are in the office four (4) days per week during onsite core days. Our current onsite core days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The work schedule type and core days are subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion.
* Can be based on Vermont or Dallas Campus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Co-lead or support reinsurance and capital transactions with internal and external stakeholders. Optimizing pricing, capital and financial impacts, risk management and assist operations teams with closing efforts.
* Quantify the impact of deals and capital actions across multiple frameworks (e.g., statutory, GAAP, economic capital, RBC).
* Support the development of pricing analyses and scenario testing for prospective reinsurance or financing structures, including legal entity modeling, cash-flow projections, sensitivities, and stress tests.
* Collaborate with MCOE, Finance, Pricing and related business areas to align modeling assumptions, capital methodologies, and reinsurance transaction structures.
* Build and enhance actuarial models to assess capital usage, return on capital, and value creation for reinsurance transactions, M&A opportunities, and other capital or risk-transfer strategies.
* Prepare presentation materials and clearly communicate findings, recommendations, and key risks to senior management.
* Assist in identifying opportunities to improve capital efficiency through reinsurance, capital market solutions, or balance-sheet optimization.
* Stay current on emerging capital methodologies, regulatory changes, and actuarial modeling best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
* Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) or Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) preferred.
* 6+ years of experience in actuarial modeling, corporate development, reinsurance or related actuarial roles, preferably within a life insurance or reinsurance company.
* Proficiency with actuarial projection systems (e.g., MG-ALFA) and strong Excel/Databricks skills.
* Ability to interpret complex financial models, reconcile results, and explain key drivers to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Familiarity with a wide range of actuarial models, including liability projections, asset modeling, and capital models. Assess modeling assumptions, methodologies, and controls for appropriateness and reliability.
* Experience presenting findings and influencing senior stakeholders in actuarial, finance, or investment functions.
* Detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Demonstrated ability or willingness to adopt and apply emerging technologies, including generative AI and automation tools, to improve reporting efficiency, effectiveness, and control quality.
