Insurance Examiner-In-Charge

Overview

As an Examiner‑in‑Charge (EIC) for the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation, Captive Insurance Division, you will examine and oversee Vermont‑domiciled captive insurance companies. Using a risk‑focused approach, an EIC leads a team of examiners in evaluating corporate governance, strategy, business plan, IT systems, internal controls, financial reporting and regulatory compliance. The role also includes research, special projects, and annual and quarterly surveillance for a portfolio of companies.

A successful EIC is self‑motivated and possesses strong time management, organization, critical thinking and communication skills.

Work is performed primarily in a normal office setting and/or remotely, and may require travel to insurer offices in or outside of the State of Vermont. Work hours may vary according to examination and workload needs.

• Graduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field AND two (2) or more years of experience at or above a technical level in accounting, auditing, or financial examination, including two (2) or more years involving insurance operations and supervisory responsibilities.
• Bachelor's degree AND four (4) or more years of experience at or above a technical level in accounting, auditing, or financial examination, including two (2) or more years involving insurance operations and supervisory responsibilities.
• One year as an Insurance Examiner III.

• AFE (Accredited Financial Examiner), CFE (Certified Financial Examiner), or CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designations.

Employees involved with financial examinations will be required to obtain the CFE designation within 48 months of employment.
