Summary

This entry level position helps enforce the physical security policy for National Life Group. This includes surveillance of our premises, protection of staff, tenants, and visitors, detecting suspicious happenings, and preventing vandalism, thefts, or other criminal behavior. The position performs security operations during one of three shifts, which are typically 8 hours in length but may differ depending on need and available resources.

Team members may be expected to work nights, weekends, and holidays to fulfill the needs of the Company. Work is performed under the supervision of the Safety & Security Shift Supervisor, and under the general direction of the Safety & Security Shift Lead and the Facilities Operations and Safety Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Respond in the event of a fire, medical, or environmental emergency.
  • Enforce the parking program for Vermont campus locations.
  • Inform people on campus about physical safety and security policy and procedures.
  • Secure premises by patrolling property and monitoring surveillance equipment and access points.
  • Process visitors and greet guests to campus.
  • Investigate security breaches, incidents, and other alarming behavior.
  • Control traffic by directing drivers.
  • Prepare draft reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities.
  • Monitor building environment and report irregularities and problems to shift supervisor.
  • Promote an effective culture of safety and security for the enterprise.
  • Demonstrate self‑motivation, teamwork, compliance with guidelines, respect, accountability, effective communication, and conflict management.
Requirements
  • Some physical security experience or law enforcement or emergency management preferred.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified or able to achieve certification within 3 months.
  • Must have and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Valid driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Entry level knowledge of physical security programs within a corporate environment.
  • Adequate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adequate interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Entry level knowledge of physical security.
  • Entry level knowledge of security electronics and technology.
  • Basic knowledge of Windows, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for up to 4 hours.
  • Ability to stay alert at all times.
  • Ability to operate a company vehicle.
  • Ability to respond to Vermont campus in under 1 hour when on call.
Base Pay Range

The base pay range for this position is the range National Life reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors, including prior experience and job-related knowledge; education, training and certificates; current business needs; and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances.

Compensation and Benefits

The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in National Life’s discretionary annual incentive programs, subject to the rules governing such programs.

If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will" position and National Life reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time.
