Description:

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) holds the responsibility of ensuring the fairness and smooth conduct of all elections and referenda.

This involves carrying out the Standing Regulations governing CSU Elections, as guided by the Standard Operating Procedures of their office. The Chief Electoral Officer reports directly to the Chairperson of the Council of Representatives,Administrative Coordinator, One (1) designatedmember of the executive team, the Judicial Board, and the Council of Representatives.

Responsibilities:

  • The CEO of the Student Union will act in a respectful and neutral manner with all candidates;
  • Oversee the Elections Commission as per Subsection 4 of the CSU’s Policy on Elections and Referenda;
  • Communicate referenda, candidate, and fee levy information to the office of Student Life and Engagement in a timely manner;
  • Safeguard the integrity and independence of the electoral process;
  • Inquire into the legitimacy of candidates’ election expenses and of referendum expenses;
  • Maintain records of election-related expenses, scheduling, election workers’ hours, and all communications;
  • Be the main point of contact with;
    • CSU membership
    • CSU staff
    • The executive team
    • Candidates
    • Chairperson of the Council of Representatives
    • Office of Student Life and Engagement
    • Coordinate with the CSU’s Communications department to ensure the effective promotion of the elections
  • Coordinate with the appointment committee chair to appoint the deputy electoral officers (DEO);
  • Appoint or hire the polling clerks and other necessary election officers;
  • Ensure proper conduct of elections or referenda by providing training to election officers and directing their work;
  • Write a by-election and annual general report to besubmittedto the Executive Representative and Administrative Coordinator.
Essential Requirements:
  • Applicants must not serve as an executive on any CSU clubs, hold any positions in Concordiastudent/university associations, or be a regular employee of these associations.
  • Knowledge of or desire to learn about the CSU By-Laws, Standing Regulation sand the rules of natural justice.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
