About the role

Join the Apartment Construction Loan Program team, in the Bilingual Manager, Multi-Unit Underwriting (ACLP) position. In this role, you will be leading a team of Multi-Unit Underwriters by providing strategic and practical advice and insights in the multi-unit housing domain. You and your team will be structuring solutions for complex multi-unit projects, identifying risks and providing creative solutions to help us make housing affordable for everyone in Canada.

In this role, you will help advance new housing development across Canada by supporting the delivery of the Apartment Construction Loan Program. You will leverage your financial expertise, underwriting experience and relationship-building skills to drive the development of rental housing across the country.


What you’ll do:

  • Leads, motivates and manages the performance of a team and contributes towards prudent, effective and efficient delivery of the Apartment Construction Loan program (ACLP).
  • Ensures consistency in the application and interpretation of program policies and operational procedures.
  • Offers advice, support and alternative solutions to clients and stakeholders including the communication of key decisions, the interpretation of policies and the response to inquiries.
  • Analyzes and provides guidance for complex applications involving issues including borrower structures and financial capacity reviews, higher financial exposures and exceptions to policy, as applicable.
  • Applies sound judgment and decision-making practices that are factual and based on underwriters' complex analysis to approve or recommend solutions and mitigation options in line with CMHC's risk appetite.
  • Manages and maintains complex and sophisticated lender and borrower client relationships including senior executives of private and publicly traded companies, real estate investment trusts (REITS), pension funds, non-profits, etc., to manage and address their needs, understand their objectives and explore opportunities.
  • Coaches team members and providing guidance on complex, high-value, or high-risk financial requests, including the use of technical financial tools.

What you should have:

  • An undergraduate degree in a related field such as business, finance or commerce.
  • A minimum of five years of experience related to underwriting.
  • Three years of supervisory experience and/or demonstration of leadership competencies.
