With over 40 years or market leading presence, BMO’s Dealer Finance team is accountable for providing specialized commercial finance solutions to Canada’s automotive, marine and RV sectors.
Reporting directly to the Line of Business Head, the Director, Credit Structuring role is specifically accountable for credit risk governance across the Dealer Finance commercial loan portfolio, including oversight of risk appetite, credit strategy, controls, and remediation of emerging and elevated risks. The role partners with cross‑functional stakeholders to execute policy, manage credit issues, support models and analytics, and ensure strong audit, limit, collateral, and exposure governance.
In addition, this role identifies and drives opportunities for transformational change through system, process, and business model improvements that enhance efficiency and risk outcomes.
Provide expert guidance on credit structuring, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance across BMO’s Dealer Finance businessEnsures adherence to regulatory requirements, internal controls, and compliance policies in all aspects of credit risk management, mitigating risk of loss and maintaining high service standards.Act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership, contributing to portfolio optimization and business planningDrive operational excellence through process innovation, analytics, and continuous improvement. Assist in monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) across the portfolio and ensure timely follow up with appropriate action plans to address out of compliance items are implemented and actioned by deal teams.Drives efforts to identify new business opportunities, acquire clients, penetrate markets, and expand the client base by leveraging market insights, competitor analysis, and cross-selling initiatives.Collaborate with Credit Partners and be viewed as a Credit Leader with the capability of carrying and exercising an elevated discretionary limitCollaborate cross-functionally to ensure consistent delivery of credit and portfolio solutions and alignment with enterprise strategyChampion a client-first approach, ensuring timely resolution of complex issues and identifying opportunities to enhance client relationshipsAssist the Managing Directors & Team Leads by playing a pivotal role in with the structuring and execution of customized credit strategies aligned with client needs and business objectivesIdentifies issues, gaps and process improvements through open communication with all stakeholdersDemonstrate in-depth knowledge of the bank’s policies, procedures and framework, serving as subject matter expert and a key resource for colleaguesRepresent the Commercial Bank in internal and external forums, including regulatory and industry engagementsContribute to enterprise-wide initiatives and support broader strategic priorities as requiredQualifications
Minimum 7+ years of experience in commercial banking, credit structuring, or related financial servicesPost-secondary degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experienceCredit qualified, with deep expertise in credit principles, structuring, and risk managementProven technical leadership and recognized as a seasoned expert in the industryExceptional verbal and written communication skillsAdvanced analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilitiesStrong influence and collaboration skills, with a focus on cross-functional teamworkDemonstrated ability to manage ambiguity and deliver results in complex, fast-paced environmentsThought leader in innovation, with a data-driven approach to strategy and executionYou’re fluent in French and English as this role provides support to clients and team members inside and/or outside the province of Quebec.
