About the Opportunity

Our client is one of Ottawa’s most established and respected residential builders, with a long history of delivering high-quality homes and master-planned communities throughout the National Capital Region.

As they continue to grow, they are seeking an experienced director of operations to provide leadership across Construction, Estimating, and Customer Service. This is a key executive leadership opportunity for someone who can balance strategic planning with operational execution while driving performance, profitability, and customer satisfaction.

Reporting to senior leadership, the Director of Operations will oversee the full homebuilding lifecycle, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably while maintaining the highest standards of quality and customer experience.

You will provide leadership and accountability across multiple operational departments while working closely with Finance, Sales, Marketing, and Health & Safety to align business objectives with operational execution.

This role requires an individual who can think strategically, lead people effectively, and remain connected to the realities of day-to-day residential construction operations.

Duties include but are not limited to
Operational Leadership

Lead and oversee Construction, Estimating, and Customer Service operations

Execute operational strategies that support growth, profitability, and long-term business objectives

Establish clear performance expectations and accountability across operational teams

Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency and overall business performance

Construction & Delivery

Oversee residential construction operations across multiple active communities

Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with approved schedules, budgets, drawings, specifications, and quality standards

Promote consistency and accountability throughout the homeowner journey, from construction through possession and warranty service

Conduct regular site visits to evaluate performance, safety, quality, and operational effectiveness

Trade Partner Management

Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and trade partners

Participate in contract negotiations, scope development, renewals, and performance reviews

Resolve trade‑related issues while fostering long‑term partnerships

Support the ongoing development of a strong and reliable trade network

Drive operational efficiency, cost control, and profitability

Partner with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities

Monitor key operational metrics and implement corrective actions where required

Identify and mitigate schedule, cost, and execution risks

Leadership & Team Development

Lead, mentor, and develop operational leaders and department managers

Foster a culture built on accountability, collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement

Support succession planning and leadership development initiatives

Champion strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration throughout the organization

About You

Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline

10‑15+ years of progressive residential construction experience

Demonstrated success in a senior operational leadership role within residential homebuilding

Experience overseeing multiple communities, projects, or portfolios simultaneously

Strong understanding of residential construction practices, municipal regulations, and development processes

Proven ability to manage budgets, forecasting, operational performance, and profitability

Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship‑building skills

Ability to balance strategic planning with hands‑on operational leadership

Preferred Qualifications

Professional designations such as P.Eng., Gold Seal, PMP, LEED, or equivalent

Experience leading construction operations within a production homebuilding environment
