Job summary
The Director, Platform Operations and Partnerships for ARCHIMEDES (Advanced Research Collaboration for Health Integration, MEDical Exploration and data Synthesis) is a senior operational leader responsible for the operational management, partnership building, and implementation of strategic goals. ARCHIMEDES is a bilingual multi-institutional health data platform developed under the Brain-Heart Interconnectome (BHI) program, a $109M initiative funded through the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF).

ARCHIMEDES has established its initial data governance framework, foundational infrastructure, ethics and oversight mechanisms, and local operational model. The Director will build on this foundation to drive coordinated execution of strategic goals, broaden institutional participation, and support ARCHIMEDES’ strategic priorities established by the ARCHIMEDES Leadership Committee.

The Director will report to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI) Chief Scientific Officer and work in close partnership with the ARCHIMEDES co-chairs. The Leadership Committee and co-chairs are responsible for setting the strategic direction, priorities, and long-term objectives of ARCHIMEDES. Under their guidance the Director is responsible for operationalizing these priorities through effective project management, resource allocation, partnership development, performance management, and risk mitigation.

The Director will serve as a connecting point between ARCHIMEDES, the Leadership Committee and the BHI Secretariat. They will provide regular reporting on platform operations, budgets, partnerships, sustainability, and risk mitigation.

Key responsibilities
Operational leadership and execution

Translate scientific directions set by the ARCHIMEDES co-chairs into executable operational workplans, timelines, and deliverables.

Establish and optimize processes to ensure operational readiness to support increasing volume and complexity of data ingestion and curation, data access requests/approvals, institutional onboarding.

Provide management and coordination across distributed technical, operational, and institutional resources supporting ARCHIMEDES, ensuring effective collaboration and accountability across participating organizations.

Liaising closely with ARCHIMEDES co-chairs while working closely with existing UOHI and McGill-based technical and operational teams to optimize service delivery and avoid duplication of effort.

Governance and reporting

Serve as Governance and Secretariat Lead to the ARCHIMEDES Leadership Committee, supporting effective decision-making through coordination of agendas, materials, records of decisions, and follow-up actions.

Support the development and lead the operational implementation of the ARCHIMEDES strategic plan, translating strategic priorities into coordinated governance, operational actions, and measurable deliverables.

Lead the ongoing development, refinement, and continuous improvement of governance structures, processes, and reporting mechanisms to ensure effectiveness, transparency, and alignment with strategic objectives.

Provide regular operational and strategic reporting to the BHI Executive and governance bodies to support oversight, integration, and alignment.

People leadership and team management

Provide leadership, direction, and management of staff and distributed teams supporting ARCHIMEDES, fostering a collaborative, high-performing, and service-oriented culture.

Establish clear roles, priorities, and performance expectations, ensuring accountability, effective communication, and alignment with strategic objectives.

Recruit, mentor, and support team members while identifying workforce needs and implementing staffing and succession planning strategies to support long-term growth and sustainability.

Partnership development and institutional expansion

Serve as a central liaison across partner institutions (UOHI, uOttawa, McGill), ensuring alignment across technical services, infrastructure, governance processes, and user support.

Lead partnership development and engagement strategies to drive expansion, support awareness, understanding, and adoption of ARCHIMEDES across regional and national organizations (e.g., academic, healthcare, government, and not-for-profit partners).
