The Commissioning Technician is responsible for the commissioning of industrial facilities by ensuring the validation of the proper functioning of mechanical, electrical and automation systems. He prepares commissioning protocols, plans and carries out equipment start-up activities, and ensures that the installations comply with project requirements, quality and safety standards as well as customer expectations. He contributes to efficient commissioning by diagnosing and resolving technical problems, in close collaboration with the project teams and the customer.

Position

Functions
  • Prepares commissioning protocols and performs start-up activities.
  • Ensure the correct configuration of the installation to achieve the minimum performance required by contract and for final acceptance.
  • Verify the proportional, integral, derived (PID) by a static check of the on-site installation, electrical cabinets and utilities and then return to the line manager.
  • Perform unit tests of all facility equipment and functionalities.
  • Monitor production to achieve minimum required performance and remove reservations.
  • Intervene on existing installations to diagnose breakdowns, make repairs and carry out maintenance.
  • Update the commissioning folder as the installation tests progress.
  • Implement the provisions of the Prevention Plan.
  • Participate in or report weekly consolidated on the progress of commissioning to the line or functional manager.
  • Communicate to the line or functional manager all actual or potential risks that may not be identified in advance and that he or she may be confronted with, before any intervention.
  • Perform installation and connection of instruments and low-voltage wiring.
  • Configure variable frequency drives (VFDs), automated valves, instrumentation, and other components based on process parameters.
  • Perform on-site commissioning activities in accordance with approved protocols and in collaboration with the automation team.
  • Produce daily reports on commissioning progress and upcoming commissioning activities.
  • Maintain a Punch List and ensure follow-up and resolution of open items.
  • Work in collaboration with the OHS manager to ensure that the teams on the site comply with the safety manual as well as the safety rules specific to the site.
  • Carefully plan each field intervention, taking into account the particularities of each machine or system and the associated risk prevention measures.
  • Use tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate to the task at hand at all times.
  • Write non-conformance reports to document deviations, anomalies and malfunctions, or to propose areas for improvement.
  • Participate in lessons learned and collect customer satisfaction evaluations following interventions.
  • Ensure the follow-up and update of the construction work schedule and communicate the progress to the Boccard project manager.
  • Measure and report on contractor productivity based on internal performance indicators.
  • Adhere to budgets allocated for field service activities.
Education
  • Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial electronics technology, automation, instrumentation and control, electromechanics or a related discipline.
  • An equivalent combination of technical training and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Training in health and safety on construction sites (ASP Construction) is an asset.
  • Certifications in automation, instrumentation or with equipment manufacturers (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, etc.) are an asset.
Experience
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in commissioning, start-up, installation or maintenance of industrial equipment.
  • Experience in reading electrical, mechanical and P&.
  • Experience working on industrial sites and with customers.
  • Experience with automation systems (PLC, HMI, VFD, instrumentation and control) is highly desired.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food or process sectors is an asset.
Skills & Abilities
  • Good knowledge of mechanical, electrical and automation systems
  • Proficiency in computer and office automation tools
  • Ability to analyze industrial technical documents (PID, Isometric Plan, Electrical Diagram, General Plan, etc.)
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
