Description:
The Guest Services Specialist will assist Community Museum staff with museum daily operations and provide a welcoming environment to all visitors. This is a part-time regular position, with benefits and holiday compensation. Weekend schedules and holidays are required.
Duties include:
- Ensure that museum admission, gift shop and membership sales, daily tours, programs and activities run smoothly
- Answer questions about the museum and the area
- Provide support for our volunteer team.
- Give tours or assist with programs if necessary, such as stack chairs, move tables, load and unload dishwashers to assist with programs.
- Open and close the museum
- Complete a visual check of all areas of the museum to check for anything out of the ordinary, report any concerns to staff.
- Maintain overall appearance of the facility as directed
- Open, close and operate cash register and daily sales records for days onsite, this includes counting the cash register at the beginning and end of the shift, recording all sales and reporting on the daily transactions and attendance.
- Assist with running programs for the public including school field trips, museum tours and other special events.
- Assist with special projects and events as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights:
- One (1) year of experience in customer service, guest relations, hospitality, retail sales, public contact, or closely related work. Your application must be completed in detail, documenting the specific dates and duties that demonstrate this customer-facing experience. Part-time experience will be pro-rated based on a 40-hour workweek.
- OR Education (Allowable Substitution):
An Associate's, Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree from an accredited institution in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, History, Museum Studies, or a highly related field will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis and fully meet the minimum requirements: - Associate's Degree = substitutes for two (2) years of experience (meets the 1-year requirement in full).
- Bachelor's Degree or higher = substitutes for four (4) years of experience (meets the 1-year requirement in full).

Supplemental Information:
- Ability to pass a background check
- Ability to work on your feet for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to be on the museum floor for long periods of time
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, holidays, and early mornings
