Our school is seeking a Classroom Paraprofessional to oversee and help coordinate our study hall program. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support to students during study hall, as well as collaborating with teaching staff to ensure curricular alignment and academic success. This role will involve performing a variety of instructional activities, including assisting in the conduct of intensified learning experiences, and routine clerical and supportive tasks for teachers/staff.
Additionally, the paraprofessional will be required to do other related work as required and should be comfortable with technology and basic technology problem-solving. The paraprofessional will work with school and district staff to provide multiple levels of academic and SEL support for students.
Essential duties and responsibilities include managing and supervising study hall sessions, ensuring students are focused and on-task; assisting with classroom management during study hall and other times as needed; collaborating with teachers to align study hall content with classroom curriculum; providing academic support to students by answering questions, assisting with assignments, and helping with goal-setting; monitoring student progress and communicating with teachers and parents/guardians as needed;
utilizing technology to support and monitor student learning; establishing and maintaining positive relationships with students, parents, and staff; attending staff meetings and participating in professional development opportunities as required; assisting instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and in the conduct of instructional exercises; assisting individual students and small groups of students to reinforce and follow up learning activities;
directing students into safe learning activities and functions and assisting in the shaping of appropriate social behaviors; assisting in the management of student behavior through the use of positive strategies and techniques; maintaining a variety of records and files, including confidential student records and information; operating and assisting students in the operation of a variety of instructional equipment; administering routine first aid and requesting assistance for non-routine injury or illness;
assisting in maintaining an orderly, attractive, and positive learning environment; and participating in parent conferences and other student progress report activities. All other duties as assigned.
Education/certification:
High school diploma, Colorado substitute teaching license. Desirable:
Equivalent of 48 credit hours from an accredited college/university, an associate's degree from an accredited college/university.
Experience:
Prefer one year of paid or volunteer experience working with groups of children. Knowledge of and abilities:
Basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavior characteristics. Student behavior management strategies and techniques. Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Basic arithmetic concepts. Routine record management, storage, and retrieval systems and procedures. Ability to demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups. Communicate effectively in oral and written form. Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of educational and office-related machines and equipment.
Learn to utilize a variety of appropriate instructional materials and procedures in the enhancement of a positive educational environment. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults.
Physical requirements:
Exert 5 to 25 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This type of work involves sitting, walking, and/or standing. Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced. Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business-related equipment, and handling and working with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
