Position: UIM - AmeriCorps Quarter Time Member *Term Limited*.

Position Summary

The Ameri Corps member will serve as part of the Education Department at the museum, working directly under the supervision of the Education Coordinator. Their primary focus will be to support and deliver high-impact educational programming to K-12 students, with an emphasis on equitable access to culturally relevant history education. The member will play a key role in facilitating Hands‑On History programs, field trips, and other student focused educational experiences.

As capacity allows, the Ameri Corps member may also assist with community events, adult educational programming, and broader outreach initiatives.

Terms of Service
  • The Member will serve at the Ute Indian Museum.
  • The member will serve for an average of 10 hours per week during the service term, for a minimum of 900 hours over the course of their service term.
  • Flexible hours are required, including occasional evenings. Members may be expected to commit to weekend hours regularly.
  • The member will be directly supervised by the Education Coordinator, with additional oversight and support provided by the Program Manager.
  • Service term begins September 8, 2026 and ends August 20, 2027.
  • Mandatory orientation on September 8 and 9, 2026 at the History Colorado Museum in Denver.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Facilitate Hands‑On History programming, field trips, classroom visits, and other educational activities, tailoring content to be culturally relevant and aligned with academic standards.
  • Take History take‑out kits into Montrose classrooms and facilitate them for the kids. Coordinate with teachers and schools to bring our visits to them.
  • Collaborate with museum staff and community partners to enhance program reach and impact.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to continuous improvement of educational programming.
  • Support and facilitate other History Colorado community engagement and story initiative projects as needed.
  • Facilitate educational tours for youth and adult audiences, lead overnight museum camps (including overnight supervision), and support cultural programming and research initiatives.
Service Term Overview
  • Hands‑On History Camps during Montrose school breaks (schedule subject to change):
    • September 2026:
      Cottonwood Days (full week)
    • December 2026:
      Winter break (select days near Christmas)
    • April 5–9, 2027:
      Spring Break
    • June 7–July 23, 2027:
      Summer Session (six weeks total)

Ameri Corps Member Perks
  • A total living allowance up to $9,000 (pre‑tax), distributed in biweekly installments of $360 over the 50‑week service term.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • A U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident.
  • Ability to pass criminal history checks.
  • Strong interest in history, education, or a related field.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Must have at least three (3) months of full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience working with school‑age children ages 5–18 (455 hours).
