Brief summary of MCSD:

Summary of Position:
Under supervision, to perform a variety of instructional activities; to assist in the conduct of intensified learning experiences; to perform routine clerical and supportive tasks for instructional personnel; to assist in managing health needs of individual students and to do other related work as required.

Affective Needs/Serious Emotional Disability: A child with a Serious Emotional Disability shall have emotional or social functioning which prevents the child from receiving reasonable educational benefit from general education. Students with serious emotional disabilities are diverse learners with needs in the areas of:

• Social Skills Training (relationships, problem-solving, focusing, conflict resolution, self-advocating, building support systems)
• Emotional regulation training (impulse control, anger management, anxiety, and depression management, coping with trauma, increasing frustration tolerance)
• Behavioral supports (functional behavior assessments, behavior intervention plans, accommodations)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials and in the conduct of instructional exercises.
• Tutor individual students and small groups of students to reinforce and follow up learning activities.
• Monitor and assist students in drill, practice, and study activities as a follow-up to the presentation of instructional concepts by instructional personnel.
• Direct students into safe learning activities and functions and assist in the shaping of appropriate social behaviors.
• Assist in the management of student behavior through the use of positive strategies and techniques.
• Prepare and assist in the preparation of a variety of instructional materials and learning aids for use with individual or small groups of students.
• Maintain a variety of records and files, including confidential student records and information.
• Operate and assist students in the operation of a variety of instructional media machines and equipment.
• Assist in maintaining an orderly, attractive, and positive learning environment.
• May participate in parent conferences and other student progress report activities as requested.
• Assisting with the daily physical needs of students. This may require but not be limited to changing diapers, assisting in physical therapy, and feeding (oral and/or tube).
