Job Overview
CTL|Thompson, Inc. is seeking an Engineering Technician for full-time employment at our Montrose, CO office. Engineering Technicians will perform field and/or laboratory observations, tests, and inspections on various projects. They will communicate with project managers, contractors, other engineering technicians, client representatives, and other applicable field personnel at the project site. They will collect and transport sample specimens to the laboratory for further testing and complete daily reports.
They will maintain and clean company vehicle, equipment, and work areas as needed, and assist field managers in other assignments. All work is performed in compliance with company policies and safety standards.
Engineering Technician hourly pay ranges are $18.00–$31.00 for Level I, $21.00–$34.00 for Level II, and $25.00–$38.00 for Level III. Field/WorkLocation
Field work is required; working from home is not available. Typical field locations are one to three hours away from the office.
Supervisory Responsibilities- Engineering Technician I:
None - Engineering Technician II & III:
Train field staff
- Perform observations and testing in accordance with industry standards, training, and specified procedures.
- Document observations and test results accurately from field visits.
- Observe drilling operations and obtain samples.
- Generate daily field reports and review data before submission.
- Maintain considerable contact and communication with clients, contractors, suppliers, and design team personnel.
- In‑depth understanding of construction plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and other related documents.
- Troubleshoot field challenges, support the field team, and communicate effectively.
- Consult with project managers on findings in the field and work closely with team members.
- Maintain and calibrate assigned equipment.
- Follow safety rules and practices, including project‑specific policies.
- Perform pre‑task planning prior to traveling to the field.
- Maintain quality standards for all assignments performed.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Job‑related certifications preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2–3 years of relevant experience.
- Minimum of 2 applicable certifications.
- B.S. in geology (or equivalent).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 4 years of relevant experience.
- Minimum of 3 applicable certifications.
- B.S. in civil, geotechnical, or related engineering field (or equivalent).
This job operates outside in a field environment and may expose employees to extreme weather conditions, including rain, snow, cold, and heat. Employees routinely use PPE and other safety equipment.
Physical and General Requirements- Must be able to lift up to 65 pounds at times.
- Ability to walk on uneven and varying terrain at construction sites.
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
- Evening and weekend work may be required.
- Verification of right to work in the United States, including completion of the I‑9 form and submission of acceptable documentation within three days of starting employment.
- Satisfactory completion of a drug test from a Colorado‑certified laboratory selected and paid for by CTL|Thompson, Inc.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record as required by the company’s automobile insurance policy guidelines.
