For the academic year, two full-time, onsite Sign Language Interpreters are needed to provide crucial support for deaf and hard-of-hearing students in a dynamic school environment near Montrose, CO. As a valued contributor, you'll bridge communication between students, educators, and peers to ensure access to all educational and extracurricular opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation during classes, assemblies, meetings, and school activities
- Facilitate clear communication between students, teachers, staff, and others throughout the school day
- Maintain strict confidentiality in line with FERPA and district standards
- Collaborate with teachers, special education professionals, and service providers to encourage student achievement
- Review instructional materials to prepare effectively for daily interpreting assignments
- Adhere to professional and ethical standards for educational interpreters
Qualifications:
- Colorado Educational Interpreter Authorization or eligibility to secure it through the Colorado Department of Education
- Associate's degree (or higher) in Educational Interpreting, ASL, or a closely related field
- EIPA Written Examination successfully completed
- EIPA Performance Score of at least 3.5 or current RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) Certification
- Ability to meet all state and district hiring requirements, including a background check
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration abilities
This is a full-time, onsite position aligned with the district's academic calendar, Monday-Friday.
