Position SummaryThis position is responsible for supporting the public relations and community relations efforts of the WNBA Connecticut Sun Basketball Team as well as game night communications including arena set up, media seating, coordinating /hiring stats crew, team media availability, providing media notes and more.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Prepares press releases, game notes, and statistical analysis for internal and external use
- Assists in development of social/digital media content
- Executes community relations activities, including talent appearances (players, mascots, etc.)
- Tracks community relations appearances
- Cultivates relationships with local non-profit organizations
- Works with ticket sales, sponsorship and other departments to maximize team activity/presence
- Supports broadcasting efforts and assists in tracking media coverage
- Works with arena operations team on game night press set up in arena and back of house
- Hires and manages all game night staff including official stats, scoreboard crew, game night workers/stats runners
- Manages coach, team, visiting team and official’s tickets
- Travels with the team and ensures all press / media duties are completed for road games
- Serves as the media relations contact on assigned team travel
- Assists in the execution of fan and press events
- Participates and contributes to media relations and community relations strategies
- Bachelors Degree in Communications, Business or other related field
- One to Two year’s communications experience
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Excellent knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- In lieu of a Degree and previously mentioned experience, six years of experience working with a collegiate or professional sports team in a game entertainment or operations capacity may be considered
- In depth knowledge of basketball statistics
- Working knowledge of sports and sports teams
- Understanding of advertising and the use of social media
- Develop an understanding of website platforms
- Ability to initiate and develop relationships with local media, players, coaches and dignitaries
- Knowledge of Mohegan Sun corporate and department policies and procedures
- Understanding of all WNBA rules and community relations policies
- Must be able to stand, sit in front of a computer screen, and be on the telephone for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift and move equipment, bags and supplies that may be in excess of 50 lbs.
- Some travel may be required
- Must be able to work various shifts and flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays
