Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - OR General Surgery

Location

Backus Hospital (10309)

Shift

2 12‑hour shifts 7pm‑7am. One 8‑hour shift 11pm‑7am. Rotating nights to include weekends. Sign‑on bonus offered! (Restrictions apply).

Job Overview

Our nurses work in collaborative environments with strong interdisciplinary teams, focused on a patient‑centered care model in a richly diverse workspace. Under the direction and general supervision of the Nurse Manager, the RN utilizes evidence‑based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies and procedures, and directions of the medical staff. The RN applies the nursing process to develop a care plan meeting the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural and educational needs of patients and families.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education:

    Graduate of a school of nursing.
  • Experience:

    One (1) year experience and/or successful completion of the William W. Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Program.
  • License & Certification:
    Current unrestricted RN license in good standing in CT;
    Current Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire;
    Ability to obtain and maintain department‑specific certifications.
Preferred Requirements
  • Education:

    BSN or MSN.
  • Experience:

    Two (2) or more years in this specific clinical area.
  • License & Certification:
    Certification in clinical area, CNOR certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of nursing principles and practices.
  • Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions.
  • Excellent communication skills for giving technical or complex information and instruction.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with departments, staff, physicians, managers and patients.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, work flexibly and as a team player.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment.
  • Commitment to customer service.
  • Basic computer knowledge for data entry/retrieval.
Problem Solving & Decision Making
  • High analytical ability to gather and interpret information from various sources.
  • Ability to take appropriate action in response to changes, circumstances, problems and/or emergency situations.
  • Will maintain confidentiality at all times.
