Program Overview

The Actuarial Development Program is a full‑time, dynamic 4½‑year (minimum) program designed to develop individuals entering the Actuarial field into future leaders. The program provides you with challenging work environments geared toward developing the future financial leaders of Aetna, alongside the support actuarial students need to pass exams and become credentialed actuaries.

Start Date:

June – July 2027 (exact start date to be finalized and communicated later). Minimum locations:
Hartford, CT;
Blue Bell, PA;
Chicago, IL;
Atlanta, GA. Locations are flexible and you will work 2‑3 days in the office (hybrid arrangement). Relocation assistance will be provided for candidates that need to move over 50 miles.

Program Highlights
  • Risk Assessment:
    Understand the nature of specific risks and share results of analysis with management.
  • Rate Filing:
    Compile and analyze filing data then prepare and submit necessary exhibits for regulatory filings.
  • Reserve Analysis:
    Analyze claim data and monitor reserve levels for appropriateness and demonstrate an understanding of actuarial reserving techniques and issues.
  • Planning & Forecasting:
    Provide technical support and analysis for planning, forecasting, and reporting processes.
  • Pricing, Trend & Benefit Design:
    Develop and recommend pricing and trend for product and/or services.
  • Technical Proficiency
    • Develop creative technical solutions to a variety of problems.
    • Demonstrate proficiency with spreadsheets and familiarity with database and web‑based applications.
    • Develop and implement appropriate tools and models.
    • Develop and finalize business requirements and/or specifications for processes, tools, and systems.
Required Qualifications
  • Meet the educational requirements (see Education section).
  • Willingness to relocate to one of the identified Actuarial hubs:
    Hartford, CT;
    Blue Bell, PA;
    Atlanta, GA;
    Chicago, IL.
  • Pass one actuarial exam by 8/31/2026 (for June or January 2027 hires).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Internship or work experience supporting Actuarial functions.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience (e.g., student or social organization activities, or sports).
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Experience with analytical or coding software (SAS, Python, Excel, VBA, SQL, or R).
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑resolution skills.
  • Encourages teamwork and a positive environment to improve team effectiveness.
  • Resourceful and can quickly adapt to change.
Education
  • Actuarial Science, Analytics, Data Science, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Risk Management, Statistics, or other related degree.
Weekly Hours

40 hours per week (full time).

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is: $61,800.00 – $. The actual base salary will depend on experience, education, geography, and other relevant factors.
