Listing Description

Position Summary:

The City of Kingfisher is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Electric Superintendent. This position is responsible for overseeing the operations, maintenance, and improvement of the City’s electric system, including supervision of electric department personnel and coordination of daily utility operations.

The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $100,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include participation in the OPERS retirement plan, health insurance, and 12 paid holidays.

Qualifications include a minimum of seven years of electric utility experience. Five years of supervisory experience is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Directs and supervises all electric department personnel and establishes performance and safety standards.
  • Oversees construction, maintenance, and repair of electric distribution lines, substations, transformers, meters, and related infrastructure.
  • Ensures system reliability and coordinates emergency response during outages and disaster events.
  • Develops and administers department operating and capital improvement budgets.
  • Ensures compliance with NEC, NESC, OSHA, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Oversees SCADA and GIS systems related to electric operations.
  • Supervises contractors and reviews engineering plans for development and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Responds to customer concerns and represents the city in regional electric utility coordination efforts.
  • Provides oversight, scheduling, and coordination for full-time contract tree crews and other contract work, as assigned.
  • Acts as an ambassador to the public, investigates complaints and negotiates problems as required.
  • Participates in and represents the department on various boards and planning groups as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the City Manager to support department operations, emergency response, and organizational priorities.
Other Requirements
  • Must live within the established residency boundaries (20 minutes response time).
  • Must work during emergency situations and overtime situations.
  • Must have or obtain, within 6 months of employment, a valid American Red Cross First Aid card or equivalent and Flagging and Traffic Control Training.
  • Must have a reasonably clean and safe driving record.
Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of electric utility experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience.
  • Work experience with power generation desired.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
  • Oklahoma CDL Class B (or ability to obtain within six months).
  • Journeyman Lineman certification required.
  • Must pass DOT drug and alcohol screening.
Working Conditions
  • Work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Exposure to high voltage environments and elevated work areas.
  • Availability for emergency call-out, weekends, and holidays required.
  • Requires the wearing of appropriate safety apparel, the proper placement of work barricades and warning signs, and proper grounding machines and equipment.
Physical Requirements
  • Must have the strength to pull, lift, push and maneuver 50-pound objects.
  • Ability to climb poles and ladders and not have a fear of heights.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment and utility vehicles.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and elevated environments.
