CMT Technician, Materials

The CMT Technician, Materials is responsible for performing field and laboratory tests on construction materials to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.

This role supports environmental, engineering, and construction projects by providing accurate test and inspection data, maintaining equipment, and preparing detailed reports. The technician will work collaboratively with engineering staff, contractors, and clients to ensure quality and safety on construction sites. We invite you to forge ahead with us.

What you will do:
  • Perform field tests according to prescribed procedures and standards.
  • Collect soil and concrete samples, prepare samples for testing, record data, and prepare summary reports.
  • Use specialized equipment and apparatus to prepare reports and technical data.
  • Operate computer systems and peripheral equipment; maintain results log.
  • Set up, maintain, and calibrate equipment.
  • Confer with Engineering staff on test efforts.
  • Inspect construction activities on heavy highway construction projects.
  • Monitor work performed by contractors or vendors.
  • Ensure materials used on projects meet specifications.
  • Inspect common, unclassified and roadway excavation, embankment, borrow pits, and removal, storage, and placement of topsoil.
  • Complete appropriate forms and paperwork for construction activities completed each day.
  • Maintain considerable contact with clients, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Work with other task team members and leaders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Move a case weighing up to 95 pounds.
  • Push up to 250 pounds in a wheelbarrow.
  • Remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Operate tools requiring fine motor skills.
  • Traverse construction sites having uneven terrain, slopes, confined spaces, or reinforced trenches.
  • Position self to access tools and materials in various locations.
  • Conduct visual assessments of construction quality and safety.
What you will bring:
  • Experience and/or certifications related to construction inspection or construction materials testing preferred but not required.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with clean driving record and the ability to operate a motor vehicle required.
  • Must pass background check and drug screening.
  • Must pass the following exam within 60 days of employment (if not currently held):
    Nuclear Density Safety Course.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Reliable transportation required and the ability to travel daily within assigned territory.
  • Full‑time position with standard business hours; occasional night work or overtime may be required based on project deadlines.
  • Must be able to work onsite at a WSB office, as needed, as required by the project, client, or hiring manager.
  • Primarily field‑based role must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
