General Description of PositionUnder the general direction and supervision of the Program Chair, the Adjunct Instructor will teach computer science classes. The highest need is for summer sessions and online courses. The primary work location is the Lincoln campus; faculty may be assigned to work at other locations as needed. Chosen candidates must complete Southeast Community College’s Advanced Canvas training in the term before teaching.
The instructor will create course-content materials, utilize various teaching strategies—including engaged learning practices—and monitor student progress while maintaining accurate records using the required LMS gradebook.
- Provide instruction in assigned subject areas using lectures, small groups, demonstrations, and computer‑assisted instruction as appropriate.
- Prepare and administer evaluation instruments and maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress.
- Assist in gathering and interpreting data for department assessment.
- Engage in professional development to remain current in subject areas.
- Develop and/or revise course objectives, content, descriptions, and instructional strategies with other faculty.
- Develop, revise, and maintain classroom policies, grading structures, and strategies.
- Use the computer as an instructional tool for demonstrations, engaged learning, and assessments.
- Provide information for supply and equipment orders, course schedules, book orders, and related reports.
- Promote operational efficiency through enhanced policies, procedures, and communication.
- Support a positive and engaging organizational environment through respectful communication.
- Promote a culture of belonging and support inclusive practices.
- Operate and utilize appropriate technologies as part of the teaching process.
- Perform additional duties within the College as required.
- Work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as scheduled by the College.
- Current knowledge of and ability to teach computer science.
- Ability to relate to colleagues, staff, students, and supervisors of diverse backgrounds positively.
- Ability to develop and incorporate a variety of teaching strategies and techniques, including computer applications.
- Ability to devise and utilize appropriate evaluation methods for classroom use.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for short distances.
- Effective written, verbal, and telephone communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Demonstrated ability to perform essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Master’s degree including 18 graduate credit hours in Computer Science or a closely related field.
- OR Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, plus a minimum of 6 graduate credits in computer science or related field, and an approved plan to complete a Master’s degree within 2 years that includes 18 graduate credits.
- Work experience in IT, cybersecurity, networking, server administration, computer maintenance, or programming.
- Teaching experience directly related to the courses to be taught.
- Community college teaching experience.
- Experience enhancing student learning through varied teaching methods and a learning‑centered environment.
- Experience collaborating with colleagues across the College for measurable learning outcomes.
- Experience with Canvas Learning Management System.
