Adjunct Instructor, Sociology ) - PTT
Position located in Lincoln, Department of Social Science. This part‑time, temporary adjunct position is open on an as‑needed basis. Applications remain in an open pool and will be contacted based on departmental needs.
Position SummaryUnder the general supervision of the Program Director/Lead, the Adjunct Instructor will serve as a part‑time faculty member, instructing students in various Sociology courses in classroom, online, and/or distance‑learning settings. Teaching assignments include, but are not limited to:
Introduction to Sociology, Women in Contemporary Society, Issues of Unity and Diversity, Diversity and Society, and Marriage and the Family.
- Provide instruction in assigned subject areas, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to student needs.
- Prepare and administer evaluation instruments; maintain accurate student records and provide assessment data to the department and division.
- Remain current in subject area developments through supplemental sources and professional development activities.
- Participate in division and college meetings and committees.
- Serve as an Academic Advisor for Academic Transfer Program students, assisting with course selection, advising on progress, and serving as a primary point of contact between students and college staff.
- Collaborate with faculty to develop, revise, and maintain course curriculum and educational materials.
- Function as a member of the Academic Education Division team, promoting a positive image of the program and supporting recruitment, placement, and orientation.
- Provide information and data for supply, equipment orders, course schedules, book orders, and related reports.
- Develop an individualized development plan for new instructors in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction.
- Promote and support the College’s diversity goals and organizational environment goals.
- Assume additional duties as Program Chair if appointed.
- Perform other related duties within the division/program as assigned.
- Perform associated duties as required in other divisions/programs/areas.
- Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
- Work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required.
- Operate and utilize appropriate classroom and online technology and engaged learning techniques.
Skills and Abilities
- Current knowledge of and ability to teach Sociology courses.
- Ability to develop and incorporate a variety of teaching strategies and techniques.
- Ability to relate positively and cooperatively to colleagues, staff, students, and supervisors of diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to devise and utilize appropriate evaluation methods for classroom use.
- Demonstrated or explainable ability to perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 hours of graduate coursework in Sociology.
- Teaching experience equivalent to 18 semester hours or 6 academic courses/sections at secondary or post‑secondary level.
- Experience in teaching with technology (Internet, Interactive TV, smartboards, lecture capture, computer‑based instruction).
- Certification or certification‑eligible to teach dual‑credit courses.
- Experience teaching online or hybrid courses.
Salary TBD. Part‑time temporary employees are eligible to participate in the TIAA retirement plan through a Roth, SRA, or 457(B) account; no match provided by the College.
