Group Supervisor, Child Development Center - FTT

Under the general direction and supervision of the Child Development Center Director, the Group Supervisor’s primary responsibility is the supervision and management of the assigned classroom by ensuring all State licensing standards are met.

The Group Supervisor will ensure that the classroom environment is safe and nurturing for all children and will include the implementation of an age-appropriate curriculum. The Group Supervisor will collaborate with the Early Childhood Education Program at Southeast Community College, serving as a mentor and providing opportunities and learning experiences for the program’s students. This is a full‑time temporary position.

Essential Functions
  • Provides care, safety, and education for the Child Development Center children.
  • Advanced knowledge and enforcement of Nebraska State Licensing Standards; understands and implements NAEYC developmentally appropriate practices and accreditation standards.
  • Monitors and meets the child/teacher ratio in assigned areas.
  • Maintains accurate group attendance and records.
  • Creates and implements classroom management practices, including room design, daily schedule, weekly lesson plans with an emphasis on individualization, and completion of screening and assessment tools.
  • Develops indoor and outdoor learning environments and experiences.
  • Applies early childhood education best practices and stays current as required.
  • Executes age‑appropriate social‑emotional classroom experiences combined with positive, strength‑based behavioral guidance.
Partner with Families
  • Collaborates with families to plan a culturally appropriate curriculum that supports children’s learning styles and interests.
  • Communicates with families in a variety of formats.
  • Leads parent/teacher conferences supported by screening and assessment tools.
  • Assists in the planning and execution of center‑planned family and staff activities and events.
Supervises Child Development Center’s Support Staff
  • Onboards and trains staff, models best practices, supervises in the classroom, provides feedback through written and oral communication, completes evaluations, and communicates observations and needs to the Center Director.
  • Participates in center team meetings and activities.
  • Supports the center and colleagues through both verbal and non‑verbal actions at all times.
  • Promotes a solution‑focused, strength‑based leadership style.
  • In the absence of the Director or Assistant Director, assists in performing essential functions such as monitoring the front desk and entrance, parent communication, classroom oversight, monitoring ratios, and supervising scheduled staff.
Oversees Early Childhood Education Program Students
  • Provides feedback and guidance through written and oral communication.
  • Communicates and cooperates with program instructors on the performance and progress of program students.
  • Completes evaluations for submission to program instructors.
  • Attends collaborative meetings and other joint opportunities and events initiated by the program.
  • Builds relationships with all Southeast Community College programs and departments through attending college staff meetings, events, and participating in planning committees as assigned.
  • Willingness to participate in events, activities, and meetings outside of regularly scheduled hours.

General Functions
  • Models early childhood education best practices at all times.
  • Trains and monitors hourly staff as assigned to maintain a high‑quality program.
  • Occasionally performs re‑assigned classroom coverage due to changes in attendance and children/staff ratios.
  • Handles general upkeep of the center grounds, cleaning, and housekeeping duties.
  • Performs kitchen duties when assigned, including preparing and serving meals and cleaning.
  • Assists with orientations for parents, children, students, and staff.
  • May perform associated duties in other divisions, programs, or areas as required.
  • Performs other college functions and duties as assigned.
