Position SummaryUnder the general direction and supervision of the ESL Assistant Director and Adult Education Director, the ESL Navigator will serve as the SCC Navigator/Advisor for prospective and current ESL students; assist with scheduling, planning, and conducting ESL orientations; participate in marketing, recruiting, and promotion of the program; and assist through various initiatives with student retention. This full‑time regular position requires occasional Friday evening and Saturday shifts during testing times.
EssentialFunctions
- Serve as a navigator and advisor for prospective and current ESL students, including career counseling, goal‑setting, and helping students navigate the adult education and higher education systems.
- Assist with the scheduling, planning, and conducting of ESL orientations; supervise the testing team.
- Assist with student intakes, testing, orientations, and class registration.
- Assist in planning and development of marketing, public relations, and promotional material.
- Assist in recruitment and community education of the program and services provided by the program and the College.
- Serve as a Member of the Adult Education Team: attend meetings as scheduled; contribute constructively; communicate respectfully with supervisor and department colleagues; exercise professionalism and teamwork.

Marginal Functions- Assist in maintaining inventory.
- Perform other related duties within the division/program as assigned.
- May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
- Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
- Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge and experience working with grant‑funded programs, grant writing, and/or grant reporting.
- Familiarity with distance and online learning.
- Ability to develop and sustain relationships with students.
- Ability to develop and schedule program activities.
- Ability to organize group activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and through the telephone and other technology.
- Ability to use a computer and Microsoft Office software, and multiple data management systems.
- Ability to work and communicate with a diverse group of students, staff, and community partners.
- Ability to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds for short distances and move tables, chairs, and media equipment when necessary.
- The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, or a directly related field.
- One (1) year of experience in teaching and program management/coordination.
- One (1) year of experience working with non‑native English language learners.
- OR
- Associate’s degree plus two (2) or more years’ experience in teaching or working with non‑native English language learners.
- Two (2) or more years’ experience in ESL teaching and/or student advising.
- Two (2) or more years’ experience in program management/coordination.
- One or more years of experience in Adult Education.
$43,136 per year.
