Job Overview
Special Education Teacher – Michigan Virtual Charter Academy (MVCA), an online K‑12 school operated by Stride, Inc. The position is fully remote and open to residents of the 50 states and Washington, D.C. The teacher is required to hold a Michigan Teaching Certification with a Special Education endorsement and must be a resident of the U.S. The teacher delivers online instruction, supports student progress, and ensures compliance with Special Education regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Communicate with parents and related service staff to ensure that students with special needs receive appropriate therapies.
- Develop compliant IEPs, progress reports, and other state‑required special education documentation.
- Facilitate and lead collaborative special education meetings, such as annual IEP meetings.
- Use provided resources to provide accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities, including assistive technology, supplemental curriculum, and accessible text.
- Modify Stride K12 lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP.
- Ensure inclusion and success of students in general education classrooms.
- Collect data and work samples to monitor student progress toward IEP goals and objectives.
- Document all contact with parents and interventions with students.
- Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment as needed.
- Provide rich and engaging synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences for students.
- Commit to personalizing learning for all students and demonstrate belief in all students’ ability to succeed and meet high expectations.
- Maintain grade book, ensure academic integrity, make placement and promotion decisions, and alert administrators to concerns.
- Prepare students for high‑stakes standardized tests.
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with families, communicating regularly and responding in a timely manner to students and learning coaches/parents.
- Support learning coaches/parents with student curricular and instructional issues, including basic troubleshooting in the virtual classroom environment in line with academy policies and procedures.
- Travel up to 20% of the time for face‑to‑face professional development, student testing, or other school‑required activities.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Active Michigan state teaching license.
- Clear required background check.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to collaborate with other teachers to interpret and produce numeric, tabular, and graphic representations of student data to drive instructional decisions.
- Receptive to receiving coaching on a regular basis from administrators.
- Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with the proposed age group.
- Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
- Experience teaching online (virtual) and/or in a brick‑and‑mortar environment.
- Experience with online learning platforms.
Base salary is approximately $51,000 per year, with eligibility for a performance bonus. The salary range for this position is $26,104.00 – $68,361.27, depending on experience, qualifications, location, and other factors. Employees may receive a bonus and are eligible for a robust benefits package that includes health benefits, retirement contributions, and paid time off.
