Pay Range: $16.00/hr
Under general supervision is responsible for monitoring and operating assigned Water and/or Wastewater Treatment facilities. Work varies requiring individual judgment and decision making within well‑established Federal and State regulations.
Essential Job Functions- Physical demands include bending, stooping, walking on rough or uneven terrain, kneeling, lifting up to 60 lb (with assistance). Work may be performed in uncontrolled conditions of heat, cold, dampness, or exposure to chemicals and infectious wastes.
- Must possess and maintain ODEQ Class D Water or Wastewater Certifications, Class C Water or Sewer Lab Certifications within one year of employment, and Class C Water or Wastewater Certification within two years of employment and keep such certifications throughout employment. License type depends on plant assigned.
- Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s License.
- Operate the assigned water and/or wastewater treatment plant in compliance with federal and state regulations;
- Monitor control panels; start and stop pumps; adjust valves and gates to control treatment processes;
- Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter, gauge readings and testing results to determine load requirements;
- Load and unload chemicals, add chemicals to treat water;
- Monitor controls to specified levels;
- Monitor equipment for malfunctions, provide maintenance, and make repairs as needed;
- Check building and grounds for needed repairs and cleanliness; arrange for necessary maintenance;
- May work weekends and holidays;
- Perform related duties as required;
- Maintain daily logs, records, and prepare monthly reports;
- Responsibility for assigned facilities and equipment of substantial value requiring care;
- Engage with employees and others with courtesy and respect;
- Work often performed in uncontrolled environments requiring proper safety equipment and procedures to prevent injury.
- High school graduation or equivalent; plus
- At least one year of work experience in Water and/or Wastewater Treatment is preferred;
- Previous mechanical experience desirable;
- Maintain ODEQ Class D and Class C certifications as described;
- Valid Oklahoma Driver’s License and insurability.
- Maintain knowledge of permits applicable to the plants and assure compliance;
- Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with employees, officials, and public;
- Work in confined spaces;
- Perform QA/QC testing, submit reports per authority requirements;
- Possess skill to perform laboratory tests and interpret results;
- Follow oral and written instructions;
- Maintain plant grounds (mow grass, other maintenance);
- Work shifts as required;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
